Founded by Chuck Colson in 1999, the Colson Center helps everyday Christians live and defend the Christian worldview through the proclamation of Truth, leadership training, and collaboration with like-minded organizations Our on-radio and online cultural commentaries help believers apply sound Christian worldview thinking to key issues of the day. Colson Center programs include “BreakPoint” with Eric Metaxas and Colson Center President John Stonestreet. Stonestreet also hosts a one-minute daily radio commentary, “The Point,” and a half-hour weekend interview show known as “BreakPoint This Week.” Our Colson Fellows program (formerly the Centurions Program) teaches and mentors Christians to become leaders in their spheres of influence through a year-long, intensive worldview course. The Colson Center is also committed to building and resourcing a movement of Christians and Christian organizations across the denominational spectrum to advance the Kingdom of God. We partner with groups and individuals focusing on the critical issues of our day, such as the sanctity of human life, the defense of marriage, the protection of religious liberty, and the restoration of virtue and ethics to public life. Visit us at colsoncenter.org for more worldview information and resources.

"A major problem Heathens face is the scarcity of historical sources for Northern European pre-Christian belief and practices; in fact, we have far more texts for ancient Egyptian religion than we do for the Norse and Germanic."

What's with "Christian Atheists"? - BreakPoint

Esther O’Reilly joins Shane Morris to discuss the growing number of atheist or agnostic intellectuals–like Jordan Peterson, Tom Holland, and Douglas Murray–who reject Christianity’s historical and faith claims yet also value the faith’s contributions to Western civilization and our shared humanity, to the point that they defend Christianity against those who would ban it from the public square.

What is it about Christianity that appeals to these almost-believers?

As a side note, if you’re a fan of atheist-turned-Christian C. S. Lewis, you’ll especially enjoy this episode of the BreakPoint Podcast.

Cohabitation Doesn’t Prepare You for Marriage - BreakPoint

Today’s conventional wisdom tells young people to live together before marriage in order to test the waters. But, a new study from Stanford University suggests that’s a bad idea.

Brad Wilcox, Director of the National Family Project, called attention to the striking study this week on Twitter. Divorce rates among couples that lived together before marriage are steadily higher than those that didn’t. After eight years of marriage, those who cohabited with multiple people before getting married were four times more likely to get divorced than those who hadn’t.

Scholars might call it surprising. But if we consider God’s plan for marriage—the lifelong, self-giving union of husband and wife—the study makes perfect sense. Treat marriage like a consumer product, you know, like test driving a car, and we’ll eventually find a reason to abandon it.

It turns out that whether or not we think we can tolerate our future spouse’s annoying domestic habits is not nearly as important as committing ourselves to them, for life.

The stats are sobering. According to the American Psychological Association, the average age of a child’s first exposure to pornography is 13 years old, with some seeing it as young as five.

Just as our kids must answer to us for what they do online, we must answer to God, who entrusted them to us.

Chinese Christians Run Toward the (Coronavirus) Plague - BreakPoint

With John Stonestreet traveling, Shane Morris takes the lead on this episode of “BreakPoint This Week,” and welcomes our old friend Warren Cole Smith back to the program.

Shane and Warren discuss the remarkable work of Chinese Christians to aid and evangelize their neighbors in the midst of the Coronavirus crisis–very much like their ancient Christian brethren did during the plagues of the Roman empire.

Also today: a new petition to for the government to take down a popular porn site that hosts videos of trafficked minors; Indiana lays to rest 2,411 aborted babies discovered in the garage of deceased abortionist Ulrich Klopfer; what’s with the Nones? Are the numbers reversing?

And finally, they discuss David Brooks’s compelling article about the nuclear family–a much-revered model of the family that may not, in the end, be either sustainable nor reflective of God’s plan for families and human flourishing.

The Super Bowl's Lessons and Ours - BreakPoint

"If the Superbowl halftime show proved anything, it proved that our supposedly progressive media culture still cannot elevate women on the highest stages without sex. In a hyper-sexualized culture numbed to female objectification, nothing a female has to offer is enough. Nothing short of sex, that is." https://hubs.ly/H0n0FKG0

In the body of Christ, this girl is infinitely valuable. In a culture that tells women they are never enough, we have a different story to tell.

Happy Valentinus’s Day - BreakPoint

OK, Linus never said those words to Charlie Brown, but here’s what we all need to know about Valentine’s Day.

For centuries the Church has marked February 14 as the feast day of St. Valentinus. The most-widely accepted version of his martyrdom is that he ran afoul of Emperor Claudius II, who banned marriage, believing that “Roman men were unwilling to join the army because of their strong attachment to their wives and families.”

Valentinus defied the emperor by marrying couples in secret. He was caught and executed.

So, yes, Valentine’s Day is about love, but not the kind we normally think about. Romantic love, eros, can only be properly ordered by agape, that is, self-giving, self-sacrificing love.

Valentinus died in service of Christ because of his agape to advance the life-giving agape and eros between husbands and wives.

And, while you keep the history of St. Valentinus in mind, guys, don’t forget to buy her flowers.

So, yes, Valentine’s Day is about love, but not the kind we normally think about.

Valentine’s Day and True (Sacrificial) Love - BreakPoint

Romantic love, what C.S. Lewis called “Eros,” is by no means a wrong or sinful expression of our humanity. In fact, it’s a gift from God. As Lewis wrote in “The Four Loves,” when rightly ordered, eros causes us to toss “personal happiness aside as a triviality and [plant] the interests of another in the center of our being.”

The feast of St. Valentine should lead us to reflect on the wonder and nature of God’s love for us.

Life Doesn't Work That Way - BreakPoint

Instead of being decisively dealt with, David Hume’s question – “Is [God] willing to prevent evil, but not able? then is he impotent. Is he able, but not willing? then is he malevolent. Is he both able and willing? whence then is evil?” – is as relevant today as when Hume asked it in 1779.

Christianity doesn’t so much give us answer to the question of evil as it does a response.

No Higher Law than Abortion? - BreakPoint

For years California has required private health insurers to cover abortion, even though the mandate violates federal law. Specifically, it violates the Weldon Amendment, which “prohibits a state or local government from receiving any federal funds appropriated by the act if it discriminates against health-care entities that do not assist with abortions.”

The Obama Administration never enforced the Weldon Amendment but last month, on the same day President Trump addressed the March for Life, the HHS Office of Civil Rights notified California that the state had 30 days to ensure it would comply with the Weldon Amendment.

Given the histrionic reaction of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, don’t expect California to change its mind or its practice, short of a court order.

According to the National Catholic Register, five other states—Maine, Washington, Illinois, New York, Oregon—may also be in violation of the Weldon Amendment.

This is proof that it’s a new day at HHS. Elections, and the worldviews they embody, matter.

Don’t expect California to change its mind or its practice, short of a court order.

What Is Critical Theory, and What's Behind It? - BreakPoint

There’s a new way of seeing the world that is dominating academic and public discourse, one that sees society as a collection of oppressors and the oppressed, which labels and divides people according to race, religion, sex, gender, class, etc.

It’s called Critical Theory.

Today on the BreakPoint Podcast, John Stonestreet talks with Christian apologist Neil Shenvi about Critical Theory:

What is it exactly? Where does it come from? And how might it even be creeping into Christian theology?

Virginia Eliminates Ultrasound Requirement - BreakPoint

Pro-abortion advocates know what happens if expectant moms actually see their babies… that’s why the ultrasound is a grave threat to their agenda. And, it’s why, after gaining control of the Virginia legislature, pro-choice lawmakers gutted a requirement that women receive an ultrasound and wait 24 hours before having an abortion.

The worry, as one nurse told WORLD Magazine, is that “… without the 24-hour waiting period, abortion businesses will rush women into decisions they’ll later regret.” …including women who don’t necessarily want an abortion.

One woman testified that doctors told her she’d miscarried and they wanted to “remove the baby’s remains from her uterus.” Because the law required she wait 24 hours and get an ultrasound, she discovered the doctors were wrong. She almost aborted her healthy son.

Fearing the overturn of Roe v. Wade, abortion advocates are rushing to change laws and, in the process, will rush women into tragic decisions. In Virginia and elsewhere.

That means: Elections matter.

Are Women More Important for Business Than Family? - BreakPoint

Many progressives are keen to secure equality in the workplace, even to the point of legislating gender parity in the boardroom.

After all, or so the thinking goes, how can we expect to have a good society without equal representation of women with the men?

But what about the family?

Joseph Backholm was in Washington D.C. for the Women’s March. He asked marchers what their thoughts were on California passing a law requiring women to be represented on corporate boardrooms.

Afterwards, he asked if it’s the same for families to need both a mother and a father.

Suddenly, the concern for the reality and importance of gender faded in a trendy wind.

From Suicide to Homicide. Again. - BreakPoint

Last week, a jury in Belgium acquitted three doctors sued by the sisters of 38-year-old Tine Nys. Her sisters said the doctors hadn’t sufficiently tried to treat Tine’s mental illness before helping her kill herself.

Nys struggled with drug addiction and had attempted suicide before. Then, she was diagnosed with autism. Under Belgium’s shockingly permissive euthanasia laws, that constituted enough psychological pain to permit doctors to poison her.

In reporting Nys’ story, The New York Times wrote that more than 2,350 Belgian people were “permitted euthanasia” in 2018. Words are important: These 23-hundred people were killed. They weren’t “permitted” anything. That’s the point.

I’ve said it before, and this case is a prime example: The slippery slope of legal euthanasia will slip faster and faster toward homicide. We’ve seen it in Europe, we are seeing it in Canada. We can’t let it happen here.

Our Story

The Colson Center for Christian Worldview is a ministry that equips Christians to live out their faith with clarity, confidence, and courage in this cultural moment. Every day, we...

  • Offer incisive content that cuts through the fog of relativism and the news cycle with truth and compassion.

  • Provide training that unlocks every believer's calling to restore culture.

  • Resource and activate a movement of Christians committed to cultural restoration.
  • Why We Exist

The world is confusing. The culture around us is broken. The consequences of the bad ideas deeply embedded in the way people think and live are devastating. Swimming against the cultural currents has a great cost. The easy choice for Christians is to try to keep their heads down, blend in, stay silent, or even withdraw from the controversial conversations.

But there is a better way.

Built on a foundation decades in the making, The Colson Center is the acknowledged hub of the worldview movement. At our core is the idea idea that there is no square inch of human existence over which Christ does not cry, "Mine!" Christians have been used by God to transform some of the darkest moments in human history, because men and women of faith knew God had a bigger plan in mind, and stood up for the truth.

The Colson Center brings clarity and equips ordinary people to be agents of God’s restoration. Whether what you need is a daily dose of sanity or in-depth training to make a profound difference in your corner of the world, the Colson Center provides solid, unique resources and training. The result is a rapidly growing wave of believers motivated and mobilized to be courageous catalysts for God’s work in the world.

    What We Do

  • The world is confusing. We bring clarity. Founded by Chuck Colson (1931 – 2012) in 1991 as a daily radio broadcast, BreakPoint provides a Christian perspective on today’s news and trends via radio, podcasts, video, and print.

  • Our culture is broken. We equip restorers. Throughout the year, we allow people to delve deeper into the most difficult cultural questions, and meet real people who are bringing light to the darkness. Our annual Wilberforce Weekend in Washington, D.C. is a gathering of heroes, where nearly a thousand people gather to be inspired and equipped for cultural restoration. Regular webinars, short courses, local speaking events, and other opportunities allow people to gain mastery of tricky topics and bring leadership to their families, churches, workplaces, and communities.

  • Christians are shaped by culture. We prepare them to shape it. The Colson Fellows Program is a nine-month long, intensive worldview course with readings, webinars, and residencies that prepare Christians to become leaders for Kingdom change. It’s designed for CEOs, teachers, pastors, young professionals, stay-at-home moms—anyone who wants to be empowered to be an effective advocate for God in their sphere of influence.
