During the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, millions of us are under stay-at-home orders and practicing social distancing. And for many of us, this means more time in the kitchen cooking meals.

Here are some tips to keep safe in the kitchen! ⬇️
🔪 Keep an eye on what you fry! Stay in the kitchen and never leave cooking food unattended. If you must leave the kitchen, even for a short period of time, turn off the stove.
🔪 Clean the stove and the area around it before turning on the heat.
🔪Turn pot handles to the back of the stove to avoid spills.
🔪Use a timer to remind yourself that the stove or oven is on. Always check the kitchen before going to bed or leaving the home to make sure all stoves, ovens and small appliances are turned off.
🔪When frying food, turn the burner off if you see smoke or if the grease starts to boil. Fires can start when the heat is too high. Carefully remove the pan from the burner.
🔪Consider purchasing a fire extinguisher to keep in your kitchen. Contact your local fire department to take training on the proper use of extinguishers.

Thank you to Walmart Giving for their Community Grant to support the American #RedCross! This grant is part of Walmart’s commitment to giving back to the communities where they operate.

In fact, Mrs. Helen Walton used to say "It's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived."

Thank you #WalmartGiving - we are truly #BetterTogether! 🤲

The Red Cross is continuing to respond to disasters every day in our community, providing families who have lost everything with the support they need in the midst of this pandemic. We’ve created new protocols with public health officials to ensure the safety of local communities and our workforce, while still providing the help and hope when disasters strike.

We’re so grateful for everyone who has been coming out to donate blood and help us maintain a steady supply of blood for hospitals. To help us facilitate more blood donors at our donation centers, we are looking for volunteer blood donor screeners. This position helps take donors’ temperatures and screen potential donors to keep the process safe and efficient for everyone: donors, recipients, staff, volunteers and general public. If you are healthy and think that you can step up and offer excellent customer service to our donors, please reach out to us by clicking here: redcross.org/volunteer/become-a-volunteer. Must be 18 to volunteer as a blood donor screener. Thank you! #volunteer

This got real, REAL fast! Since coronavirus outbreak, over 2,700 blood drives around the country have been cancelled resulting in 80,000+ fewer units of blood available to help those in need. Drives right here in Loudoun County have been cancelled. We need facilities to open up and host drives so we can get Loudoun residents out donating blood. Please see graphic - yes, it is safe to give now. If you are healthy and eligible, please schedule a donation at www.redcrossblood.org. If you have a facility that can host us, please contact us at 571.293.1771 (only for blood drive hosts, not donors). We need locations to host blood drives!

Can you recommend anything people can do here in LC to assist the folks in TX??? Is there a need for anything aside from monetary donations, or are donations the best most effective thing at this point?
