A very sneaky little leprechaun snuck into the Open Door Learning Center (ODLC) and wrecked havoc all over the place. They left green handprints and footprints, knocked chairs over, and even left the potty green! Our very smart boys and girls tried to trap him by setting a leprechaun trap, but the little sneaky one was just too fast. 🍀

Happy St. Patrick's Day from The Aurora School!

Our student Nico showed so much excitement leading up to our party. He kept telling his staff “party” and “cookies” with his communication device. He was all smiles when he received a green cookie and worked on a craft with staff! Nico also seemed to have a fun time when he played Saint Patrick’s Day Bingo.

How are you celebrating St. Patrick's Day? We hope yours is filled with as much joy, happiness, and green cookies as Nico's 😄🍀

Our Aurora School student Kayla has an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) goal to work on turning k***s to open doors independently. Unfortunately in the school, there are levers on all doors. Our Principal Amy Metaxa asked Director of Facilities Matt Smith about an alternative to help Kayla and within a few days they built a mini door with a k**b. It attached to the table so that Kayla can work on it all the time.

This gesture has been a life changer for Kayla! Her teacher Ms. Katie, helped Kayla make a present to show our gratitude! Thank you Matt and Greg for taking the time to create something that will have a lasting impact on one of our students!

Our Story

In 1967, parents of children with disabilities founded The Arc of Loudoun because they had a vision to help their family members live “a life like yours.” In December 2009, The Arc leased the Paxton Campus and, on this property, created a seven acre "safe-haven" for all people with disabilities and their families.

Today, The Arc of Loudoun, a local chapter of The Arc National, is home to five, integrated programs that serve the most vulnerable and underserved in Loudoun and the Greater DC Region—children and adults with disabilities, their families and caretakers, and the professionals who work to help them achieve their greatest potential. We are the only community-based non-profit working for people with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities throughout their lifetimes. We encompass all ages and all spectrums from autism, ASD, Down Syndrome, Fragile X, intellectual disabilities, various other developmental disabilities, and neurophysical disabilities including brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, effects from stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and cerebral palsy.

The Arc of Loudoun serves more than 6,000 people with disabilities and their families each year through its five, integrated programs:

  • Open Door Learning Center equips preschool children ages 2-7 of all abilities with the social and developmental skills they need to thrive in mainstream kindergarten.
  • Nearby non profit organizations
