The voter registration deadline has been extended until Thursday.

Voters in Virginia will now be able to register until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday — in person or online. A federal judge extended the deadline after the Department of Elections website was down for hours on Tuesday.

It was no surprise that Loudoun Library Foundation couldn't hold its 2020 June fundraising book sale; we had hoped we might be able to reschedule for sometime in the fall, but at this point, we've come to the difficult decision that we won't be able to hold a traditional sale at all this year. We're trying to determine if we can host some sort of modified sale in the fall, to at least salvage this year's fundraising, but there are a lot of things we have to figure out for that to happen.

We know that many of you are wondering why we can't take your donations now for a future sale, and we'd love to do that if we could, but there's a barrier that complicates that - namely, that we need to move from our current sorting and donation site by November 2020, and if we have not found another location by then, all of our materials and shelving have to go into paid storage. As most of you know, the foundation relies on donated space for our work, and that can be very hard to get. If you do know someone with ties to the real estate and/or charitable community who might be able to help this year, please help us connect.

As for donations - many of you have been taking this time to clean out your houses, and have many books and other media you'd love to donate. We will go back to collecting donations as soon as we can, but until then, if you can find a spot in your house to hold on to them, that would be wonderful!

Happy (socially distanced) St. Paddy's Day everyone!

Enjoy these shamrocks made out of damaged and recycled books by one of our board members! LLF had planned to sell them at the Park View Spring Craft Show that had to be cancelled. But they'll be available somewhere, someday! ☘️

Effective Sunday. March 15, Loudoun Library Foundation is suspending all collection efforts indefinitely, in response to the coronavirus/COVID-19 crisis. We will not be accepting donations at either donation location until further notice.

While the coronavirus will undoubtedly affect the giant used book sale in some way, no final decisions have been made concerning the sale. Please watch our page for any further news about Loudoun Library Foundation's fundraising efforts.

Thanks everyone, and be safe!

So sorry this won't go on. But we'll be there for the next one!

Get something off your to-do list tomorrow! 😎

It's another Pop-Up Donation Sunday - our volunteer crew is heading in to sort tomorrow, from 10:30 to 1:30, so if you have some donations ready, and don't want to wait until our next scheduled date of February 1, come on over. Donations are taken at the last bay door - it'll be closed, just knock!

And if *you'd* like to volunteer with the foundation, by either sorting books for the sale, or the more physical boxing and stacking, let us know at [email protected].

It's a Pop-Up Donation Day on Sunday! Our volunteer crew is heading in tomorrow, from 10:00 to 1:00, to sort some of the many books/DVDs/CDs that have been donated in recent weeks, and if you're ready to bring in some of your own, we'll be happy to take them!

And if *you'd* like to help the foundation by volunteering, either with sorting books or the more physical boxing/stacking, let us know at [email protected].

Today's the day!

Don't forget, LLF is having its first donation day for the 2020 Giant Used Book Sale today, November 9. We'll be collecting donations of books, DVDs, CDs, and video games from 10:00-12:00 at our Sterling location (203 E. Holly Ave, the old PTEX automotive shop; come to the last bay). We'll be here again on November 23, with more dates to be posted soon. We appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and are glad to begin operations for 2020's sale! But...

We don't yet have a donation and storage location to get us through to the sale; we have this Sterling space through February or March, and have hope that we'll find a new home before then.

If you would prefer to donate at Rust Library/Leesburg, we won't have a presence there this month, but Rust's advisory board will be collecting donations from November 12-28 for their December Book Sale.

This is normally the time of year when LLF begins collecting donations for the next giant used book sale. Unfortunately, at the end of October we have to move out of the donation/sorting space we've been in for three years, and we don't yet have a new location. Because of that, we don't feel we can begin accepting items until we have a space to get us through at least the 2020 sale. So, two important points:

We are actively searching for a (preferably donated) space to move our operations, at least through the June 2020 sale, but hopefully longer. If you or someone you know has contacts in the real estate community, and/or charitable leanings, please contact us at [email protected]. The sale itself takes place at a local school, but we're looking for 3000-5000 sq. ft for operations through then.

If you do have books you need to donate now, Purcellville Library's book sale is coming up in October, and they are taking donations of books, DVDs, CDs and records through September 30. You can bring your donations there anytime during regular library hours.

Star Wars Night is coming this Saturday to Rust Library!

As we did at last year's Game of Thrones Night, LLF will be there hosting a silent auction for the wonderful decorative pieces and props some of the amazing library staff created, plus some great donations, as well. Stay tuned for more items over the next two days.

Are you accepting book donations?
I noticed that with the Loudoun Library’s annual fiction and poetry contests, the top prizes often go to people that do not live in Loudoun County. Often times, the winners don’t even live in Virginia. If this is the Loudoun Library, funded by Loudoun citizens, shouldn’t the library and its services and its cash prizes for contests be for the citizens of Loudoun County?
