It’s spring: Be on the lookout for bee swarms

It's Spring time which means it's Bee Time! Please be on the look out for any bee swarms in your neighborhood. Give us a call as soon as you see one and we would be happy to come gently remove the swarm and place it in an organically managed top bar hive. We would love to get a call or text from you if you see a bee swam.

There are several sure signs that spring has arrived in the Lowcountry: all your vehicles have turned yellow overnight (pollen), more people wearing camo clothing (turkey season), yards and pastures begin to green up (w**ds emerging) and swarming honey bees.

If you see any swarms this Spring or Summer, please call us. We are happy to come right away to remove the swarm and provide it with a natural, chemical free, loving home. 303.810.9040

Immediate Need:
Looking for someone in Louisville, Lafayette, or Erie to house two hives of bees on their property. I know of someone who will be receiving bees next week. They currently have two hives in which to place the bees; these owners are no longer able to house the bees on their own property but they are willing to manage the bees in the hives on someone else's property. 🙂 If you would like the benefit of bees on your land without the obligation of managing them or keeping them alive, please reach out to me as soon as possible. Thank you... JaimiAnn 303-810-9040 (c).

Scientists discover what’s killing the bees and it’s worse than you thought

As we’ve written before, the mysterious mass die-off of honey bees that pollinate $30 billion worth of crops in the US has so decimated America’s apis mellifera population that one bad winter could leave fields fallow. Now, a new study has pinpointed some of the probable causes of bee deaths and the...

Fallen tree on Chester Street in Lafayette revealed a colony of bees. We were grateful that no one was hurt as this tree broke in half last night and thankful for the post requesting removal of the hive. Hats off to the Bee Vac and helpful and kind neighbors (Jim Young, Ken, and Joanna Spalding Dressen).

We’ve heard that bees are disappearing. But what is making bee colonies so vulnerable? Photographer Anand Varma raised bees in his backyard — in front of a camera — to get an up close view. This project, for National Geographic, gives a lyrical glimpse into a beehive, and reveals one of the biggest…

Honeybee Swarm Season......303-550-5992

If you're chomping into a nice piece of fruit or a vegtable right now, don't forget to thank a honeybee. Roughly 2/3's of your fruits and veggies would not make it to the grocery store if it weren't for this tiny little insect.

Hi everyone...It's time for my annual message about honeybees. This post is to let people know what to do if they see a swarm of honeybees.

So first off, if you do see a honeybee swarm, please call a beekeeper ASAP. If you don't know a beekeeper, my number is 303-550-5992, and I will almost always drop whatever I'm doing to come capture the swarm. Honeybee swarms are truly amazing. Swarming is a natural occurrence in a honeybee colony; it's their only natural way to proliferate. Don't be alarmed if you come across a swarm. They have no interest in stinging you unless you provoke them. Once again, if you know a beekeeper and they are equipped to capture a swarm, give them a call..swarms are like gold to a beekeeper. If not, call me asap....303-550-5992.

Second of all, if you want to help the bees, stop spraying roundup and drowning your lawn in chemicals! Let the dandelions bloom and then pull them before they seed. If you must spray them, here are a couple of methods I've used. When the w**ds are not in your lawn, ....vinegar and salt spray works great in rocks and brick patios. Don't use it in grass or too close to plants you want to stay alive...it will kill them. Another great method, for use when the w**ds are in your lawn, is to pour boiling water right into the crown of the w**d. This does work fairly well with the acception of those w**ds with very deep roots.

So help out the honeybees and the honeybees will continue to pollinate the crops that we eat every day. Did you know that 2 out of 3 bites of food you eat would not be possible if it weren't for the beautiful honeybee.

Lastly, for those who do report a swarm to me and I'm able to capture it, you will get a beautiful bottle of fresh, raw honey. I'll even help you take a #honeybeeselfie #swarmselfie with the swarm if you like....I know that's all the rage.

Thanks
Dan
