We give kids the power to create their own performance usually around a healthy topic like getting fit, losing weight, quitting smoking or saying no to drugs! So far we've gotten 2 grants to create music & begin classes in collaboration with local schools, Boys & Girls Clubs & Parks & Recreation organizations. These include the Arizona Governor's Youth Count award & a generous grant from Fauquier CADRE, in Warrenton, Virginia. The latter allowed the director to travel to New Jersey to work with John DeGrazio, an Atlantic Records music producer, to create an original empowering song to incorporate into children's shows. Youth also use unique medleys created from their own favorite songs, using Cakewalk, a specialized recording software. This allows for complete ownership and participant buy in to each individual play creation. In 2011, Empower morphed into PVA Keiki club and started volunteer work at Konawaena Elementary School in Kealakekua, Hawaii. The results were incredible with a culminating show Feb.12, 2012 which was attended & supported by the local police with their own bully prevention presentation and a local political official: http://www.westhawaiitoday.com/sections/news/local-news/youth-play-takes-bullies-empowers-kids.html
