Hello, my name is Kerrie Perkins and I am a Youth Advocate at Nexus Youth and Family Services. Though I didn’t move to Amador County until 2003, it has become my home, more so then anywhere that I have lived before. The community here is so welcoming, family oriented, and friendly. From the age of 4, I was a foster child until I was adopted when I turned 16. I was in many different foster homes, and in and out of children shelters. I never had a place or a family to call my own. Throughout my childhood and into my adult life, I have experienced many highs and lows. All the unfortunate events have made me into the person that I am today. I want to be a light at the end of the tunnel for youth who need that light. I feel that everything happens for a reason, and I am happy to start such a rewarding job here at Nexus. My goal here as a Youth Advocate, is not only to support the youth, but to instill into our next generation the will and power to do their absolute best. And if they do this, they will be in control of their futures and be their own heroes. Family is most important to me. My fiancé and I have three sons and a bonus daughter; we are planning on getting married in Spring of 2022. I pride myself on being a better parent than I have had growing up. Some of my hobbies are spending time with family, friends, going to local lakes, and to the beach. One of the quotes that I live my life by is, “It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters” -Epictetus.

Amador County Friday Night Live chapters want to hear from you! Through this survey you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts about flavored tobacco products and how they affect youth in your community. Just so everyone is on the same page, the words "tobacco products" refers to all tobacco products, regardless of how they are used. Tobacco products can be used in many ways - vapes, e-cigarettes, e-pipes, smokeless (chew), snuff, etc. Keep that in mind when you are answering questions about flavored vs. unflavored tobacco.

All of your answers are confidential, and no one will know how you answer unless you tell them. Thank you for taking this survey - your voice is important!

My name is Jorge Espiritu and I am the new Volunteer Coordinator for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates. My role here at CASA is helping our lovely volunteers in their cases that they are assigned to, making sure that all volunteers go through extensive training to prepare them to help the foster youth in either Amador and/or Calaveras County, coordinate all cases that go through Amador and Calaveras Superior Court. I am currently attending Santa Barbara City College online where I will be receiving my Associate's Degree in Communications. My goal is to get my Master's in Communication Studies/Disorders at University of Southern California and to open my own LGBTQ center. I grew up in Amador County, where I attended Ione Elementary, Ione Junior high and Argonaut High School. I moved to Santa Barbara to attend college and reside in 2013 and came back to Amador County in 2019. I am also a former volunteer for Nexus Youth & Family Services, so I am very familiar with all services that both CASA and Nexus offer. My passion is to help those who are in need, changing someone's life one day at a time. My hobbies in my free time, I play tennis, spend time with friends and family, and read science journals to keep up with modern medicine. I am very excited to be a part of Nexus and CASA, and to help the community.

Hi, my name is Chuck Martin. I am a Supervised Visitation Monitor for Nexus Youth & Family Services. Helping others is always been a dream and passion of mine. Before working at Nexus, I went to Delta College and received a degree in Public Safety. I spent many years working in local law enforcement and then started a new chapter of my life working for the California Department of Correction at Mule Creek where I worked for 23 years. I also spent many years coaching football and baseball. I am excited to be a part of the Nexus team where I work alongside like-minded people that are passionate in helping youth and families. I am married and have four children; I am so proud of my kids and their adventures in life. In my spare time, I enjoy hunting and spending time in the outdoors with my friends and family.

My name is Vanessa Compton and I am the Program Coordinator for the Upcountry Community Center with Nexus Youth and Family Services. The work I do in my community is very important to me. Having experienced a life of adversity, challenge and change has shown me the value of service to others, compassion and self-empowerment. I could not always control my circumstances, but I realized a long time ago I have the power to change my story and the outcome of my life. I live in Pine Grove with my husband, daughter and grandsons. We share our space with 2 spunky and stubborn English Bulldogs, a handful of cats and the wildlife that graces our beautiful forest daily. I have 3 children, a step-daughter and 3 amazing grandsons. I enjoy live music, somewhat inappropriate humor and watching the birds and deer in the forest we call home. I am grateful and humbled for what each new day brings…it wasn’t always easy but it’s definitely worth it.
