PRESIDING JUDGE KEVIN C. BRAZILE ANNOUNCES CLOSURE OF ALL SUPERIOR COURT OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY COURTHOUSES

Presiding Judge Kevin C. Brazile this evening ordered all 38 courthouses closed on Monday, June 1, 2020, in the interest of public safety. Presiding Judge Brazile made the decision to close all courthouses in the nation’s largest trial court after Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced a countywide curfew that took effect at 6 p.m. on May 31, 2020.

“Out of an abundance of caution, I am taking the extraordinary step of closing our courthouses tomorrow to protect the safety of the public, judicial officers and employees,” Presiding Judge Brazile said. “This is not a decision I make lightly. But public safety is always our paramount concern.”

We’d like to share with you this offer from the College of Court Reporting below. Please consider sharing this with your court reporting friends - students and professionals.

As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to spread throughout the United States, College of Court Reporting (CCR) continues to monitor the situation through review of local, state, and national health agency reports and development of preparedness plans. As other universities, colleges, and schools continue to cancel face-to-face instruction, we want to let you know that all courses for the certificate, degree, and self-paced programs at CCR will continue uninterrupted via our online Learning Management System, Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, and EV360 Ultimate software programs.

For Any Student: We understand that students may have fewer opportunities to continue developing skills if classes are canceled without alternative online options being available from their institution. CCR and EV360 Educational Solutions would like to make available access to its live/recorded dictation classes and one of the EV360 Ultimate speedbuilding programs at no charge for 30 days starting March 20, 2020. We will continue to assess the situation to see if an extension is needed. Our objective is to help students continue to progress with their skills without interruption.

If you are a court reporting student interested in this opportunity, please complete the online form using the following link. A member of our team will be in touch with you to answer any questions and get you setup.

For Professionals: We would like to invite working professionals to use the live class platform to offer your own live speedbuilding classes. We will create your own custom class on the LMS so you can offer your own live/recorded speedbuilding. If you are interested in this opportunity, please complete the online form using the following link. A member of our team will be in touch with you to answer any questions and get you setup.

MSNBC, the most technologically advanced method of capturing the spoken word and producing a record is the stenographic reporter. An accurate record is more important than ever today. And the best way to get the most accurate record is that stenographer on the floor of the Senate and House who reports the proceedings in realtime (instant translation as the reporter is writing). Their realtime transcripts create the daily Congressional Record printed by the government printing office. Claire McCaskill, as a former senator, you should appreciate the job they do in getting the record quickly and accurately. Brian Williams, those stenographers have been working nearly nonstop since October. No other method would be able to keep the record with so many people talking at the same time. The stenographers are really the unsung heroes in the impeachment trial. #discoversteno #ncrastrong
