Per Brandon Emerson from Cornerstones:

Good afternoon everyone,

I hope you all are well!

Over here at Cornerstones we are ecstatic; I just heard word that the dust has settled and we were able to raise $10,700 on our day of giving yesterday! With your collective support that means Cornerstones raised $20,700 in support of our mission!

We could not have done this without your collective generosity and support. It truly takes a community and you all rose to the challenge. Thank you for your contributions and the time you spent helping us execute this wonderful campaign.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend knowing that you have made a real impact.

Best,
Brandon

Today we have the opportunity to ensure Cornerstones can continue to connect our most vulnerable neighbors to the services and support they need.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made clear we all are just one tragic event away from instability. As this region’s leading anchor organization, Cornerstones recognizes the importance of quickly triaging families living in crisis. Their unique wrap-around services and programs then ensure that everyone can rebuild their stability, be empowered with life-changing resources, and achieve hope for living healthy, connected lives in our community.

Today is the day to ensure that everyone thrives in our community. Cornerstones is working to raise $20,000 in just 24-hours. The need is essential, so let’s make a powerful investment in all our futures by donating to Cornerstones. Together, we can ensure this region remains an extraordinary place to live and work.

Our speaker this week needs no introduction. Jacques Haeringer, Chef de Cuisine of the legendary L’Auberge Chef François, will join us this Thursday to talk about one of his past river cruises and tell us what he has planned for the future. He will take us on a virtual cruise and share stories of culture, history, wine, and food as experience by guests attending one of these wonderful trips. With the help of photos and Jacques' humorous delivery, this will be a welcome respite from our hunkered down Covid life.

March 25th 7:30 am

Please join us next Thursday March 11th at 7:30am for our speaker Kelvin Pierce.

Kelvin was raised to be a hard core racist. His father was Dr. William Pierce, a world renowned founder and leader of the National Alliance, one of the most well-known hate groups in the world. Kelvin’s father was labeled as the most dangerous and influential Neo-Nazi or White Nationalist in North America by the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League for over a 30 year period. In 1978 Kelvin’s father wrote the novel The Turner Diaries, which Timothy McVeigh acknowledged was his inspiration for his bombing of the Oklahoma City Federal Building. The Turner Diaries has been labeled “the bible of the racist right” and tells the story about a race war that culminated in the violent overthrow of the US government. Scenes in that book include hanging Jews and Blacks and In*******al couples from light poles on the city streets. In one chapter a federal building is blown up with a bomb almost identical to the one McVeigh used.

Kelvin was profoundly influenced by his father while growing up and tells his story of rampant abuse, mental illness and eventual recovery.

Today, Kelvin is Co-Owner of Commonwealth Home Design, Inc., a Virginia based Residential Design/Build Remodeling Firm. He is former President of the Rotary Club of Vienna. And a founder of the 501(c)(3 )charitable foundation the Divine Child Foundation.

The Rotaract Club of Great Falls is pleased to announce plans for a Flags for Heroes display honoring our Military, First Responders and others who serve. From Tuesday, November 10th through Friday, November 13th, in recognition of Veterans Day 2020, we will be planting a field of ten-foot-tall US Flags at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Great Falls, VA honoring a Hero of your choice.
During the Covid-19 crisis, we believe that it is particularly appropriate to recognize those who serve our community. According to General Stephen Clark (Retired), Rotary Club of Great Falls President, “the display will be a magnificent tribute to our veterans and a wonderful unifier for our community. As the local community continues our efforts to re-open, this display will be a welcome sight.”
Father David Lucey, Rector of St. Francis Episcopal Church, “considers this an important visible engagement with our neighbors during a time when the unity within our community is paramount. We are particularly pleased that the event will support the Great Falls Freedom Memorial (GFFM).”
Please help support Rotaract's effort in honoring the Heroes in our community. The benefactor for this event is the Great Falls Freedom Memorial (www.gffm.org). Due to Covid concerns, the traditional Veterans Day tribute at the GFFM has been cancelled. GFFM has been a center piece for our community. Please consider recognizing our heroes and donate in support of GFFM.
A special ceremony will take place from 4:30p – 6pm on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 11th. If you plan on joining us for the ceremony, please RSVP at http://evite.me/ZRB8hWjBeA.
The sponsorships for flags start at $100.00. Corporate Sponsorships with many benefits, including signage at the site, are available at several levels. Flag sponsorships honoring the names of the fallen, first responders, or personal heroes are available. For more information, please visit www.rotarygreatfallsva.org.

As I am sure, you are certainly aware COVID has been tough on everyone. LiftMeUp!, and our local therapeutic horse riding center is no exception. During this time, our revenue is down more than 50%, in an already tight budget. We need your help to make up some ground- so 'Off to the Races" we go. Rotary Club of Great Falls, Virginia and BRX Oven (best pizzeria around!) are organizing this fun Horse Racing event. Here is a brief description of how it will work: A total of 13 (hobby) horses will race 3 times (or more if we can). We are looking for people to 'own' a horse for a race for $100. Each horse will be numbered and moved by 1) Pulling a card from the deck - that gives us the horses number, then 2) a roll of a single dice. The winner will be the one who crosses the finish line first. The track is 21 squares long x the 13 horses wide - we are looking for additional sponsors for the resulting squares too - a free pizza - $25 more dollars donated to LMU, etc., if a horse lands on that particular square. The winner of each race will receive a BRX gift certificates for $250-300 for either BRX Oven (his amazing pizzas) or BRX American Bistro (also very yummy). Join the fun and fanfare with this exciting 'live' event on zoom. 'Buy' your horse today, by clicking here: https://portal.clubrunner.ca/.../lift-me-up-fundraiser If you could, please spread the word by sharing this post. The more races we have, the more money we raise!! This wonderful organization helps so many people, of all abilities, turn their lives around and find some normalcy, or even have a little time for themselves. We were, unfortunately, like so many charities, not able to have our annual fundraiser this year. We are doing all we can, but we need your help!
