WEAV has given over 150 scholarships and this would not have been successful without @Ed Henry. As 2014 comes to a close, we would like to thank all of our donors, partners, sponsors, volunteers, and anyone who has ever supported us in any way. Since our establishment, about a year and a half ago, we have worked hard to provide local disadvantaged students with essential school supplies. In addition, we have launched an environmentally friendly program in which we collect, recycle, and resell empty toner cartridges and office supplies for proceeds.
Here’s looking back at our best of 2014:
• Provided 1,100 needy children with brand new backpacks and sets of school supplies
• Successfully participated in 6 backpack distribution events
• Partnered with over a dozen local organizations and offices in our toner collection program
• Collected over 1,200 empty toner cartridges
• Featured in over 3 media sources
We have made great strides in the past year and look forward to accomplish even more in 2015. Thank you again to all of our supporters. We couldn’t have done it without you!!
This summer we distributed 1,000 backpacks and supplies to needy children in the Northern Virginia area. This was only possible because of our members, volunteers, partners, and supporters, who helped us reach our goal by donating their time, money, and efforts. During the last week of August, our members worked hard to pack all the backpacks with supplies and deliver them to various events. We are so grateful to have been able to participate in 4 events: Creekside Community + Fort Hunt ES Back-to-School Event, Friends of Firefighters Annual Backpack and School Supplies Distribution, Forestdale ES Resource Fair, and Alternative House Family Fun Day. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who has supported us in our first year of becoming an established nonprofit. Over 1,000 children will have new backpacks and school supplies for the 2014-2015 school year. We couldn’t have done it without you all!!
2014 Back-to-School Supplies Distributions
ALSO a huge thanks to Domino's Pizza who generously sponsored us with pizza for our fundraising party!!
Thank you to everyone who came to our summer fundraising party and thank you to everyone who generously donated to us! With the help of you all, we reached our goal of $2,000!! We will be able to provide 1,000 backpacks and more than 500 sets of supplies to needy children next week. We couldn’t have done it without you!!
Back in June, we presented 20 backpacks filled with school supplies to Mr. Ilryong Moon (shown on left), Chairman of the Fairfax County School Board, Mrs. Tamara Ballou (shown on right), principal of Graham Road ES, and 2 young student government representatives. About 82% of the students at Graham Road come from low-income households and have a hard time obtaining essential school supplies. The 20 backpacks were obtained through our partnership with The Langley School in our 3R toner collection Program. The entire Langley community helped us collect over 200 toner cartridges, allowing us to provide the supplies to the students of Graham Road.
We hope to provide more than 500 backpacks and supplies to needy children before the start of school this fall!
We welcome a new member to the Board of Directors!
We are proud to be partnering with The Madeira School in our 3R Toner Program! Starting in the Spring of 2014, the Madeira community, including the students, faculty, and staff, has helped us collect around 50 toners and printer cartridges. This is an amazing start to the toner drive, which we are excited to continue next school year, for the 2014-2015 school year! Thank you to everyone who supported us, and a special thanks to Mr. Jeff Dayton who made this partnership possible!
April 5th: Another successful bake sale at the Great Falls Safeway!! Thank you to everyone who helped and supported us! We raised enough money to provide at least 10 kids with backpacks and school supplies!
Special thanks to Rianna Banerjee, Jessica Lee, and Virginia Zhang
Cannon Road ES Distribution 3/25/14
On March 25th, we had our first school supplies distribution at Cannon Road Elementary School!! Our dedicated members braved the snow, rain, and wind to reach these wonderful kids in Silver Spring, MD. We gave out around 80 backpacks and to the smiling children and families. Thank you everyone for your continued support. We couldn't have done it without you all and we look forward to future distributions with even more backpacks and supplies!!

About 2 weeks after our toner drive’s debut with The Langley School, we have already collected around 50 toners! Thank you to everyone in the Langley community who brought in toners and supported us!! This is an amazing start to the toner drive and we are very excited to see the results in the coming months. The Langley School Alumni Group
We are proud to announce our newest partnership with The Langley School in McLean, VA (www.langleyschool.org)!! In part with our mission to make a difference in children’s lives and to spread environmental awareness, we are hosting a toner/printer cartridge drive at The Langley School. Collection begins now, and ends on Earth Day – April 22. All toners and cartridges collected will be traded to a recycling company for proceeds that will be used to purchase new school supplies for children in need in the D.C. Metropolitan area.
On January 16th, we spoke to the students and faculty at Langley about the importance of the small things that make a difference. We sincerely hope that the toner drive will allow the students to reflect on how they can improve the community around them, step by step.
Have any unwanted/used toners or printer cartridges? Email us at [email protected]! You can help the environment by recycling your toners AND you can help a child succeed in school with the right supplies!
On January 14th, we held our second bake sale at The Madeira School! Again, it was very successful, with our 4 dozen Georgetown Cupcakes sold out within minutes. To top that off, we sold most of our slutty brownies, cookies, and muffins. Thank you to everyone who helped make this sale a success!! We raised over $500, which can help over 25 children gain school supplies for a year!!
Happy Holidays!!! A snapshot of the boxes of school supplies that arrived just in time for the New Year! They're ready to be delivered to children across the area in the coming month. We hope everyone has a wonderful day!!
On December 5-7, CLIPUS Foundation held its first toner drive partnering with Adventure Theater (www.adventuretheatre-mtc.org) this past weekend at the JCC in Rockville, Maryland. For each toner collected, the patron was entered in a raffle for a chance to win 4 tickets to the Adventure Theater's production of 'Anything Goes,' which ran from December 5th-7th. For every 20 toners donated, donors received one free ticket to any student-led Adventure Theater production. The drive was a great success. Every show night, 2-4 of us went to the JCC to help spread the word about our Toner Drive, as well as CLIPUS Foundation itself. The toners we collected will be sold to a recycling company and all profits will help us purchase new school supplies for children in need. Thank you to everyone who helped make this weekend a success!!
On November 27th, members of our Board of Directors met with Patrick Fitzgerald from the Fitzgerald Moving and Storage Company, Inc. CLIPUS Foundation is currently partnering with Fitzgerald Commercial Movers (www.fitzmovers.com) in collecting unwanted office supplies from companies that are relocating or moving. We then exchange the supplies for donations or we distribute them. We met with Mr. Fitzgerald to pick up 20,000 paper clips that Fitzgerald Commercial Movers had collected. Thank you Eric Mion from the Elder and Disability Law Center for you generous donation!
Happy Thanksgiving from the CLIPUS Foundation!! We're thankful for the notebooks, pens, and pencils we have as a given and most of all, we're thankful for all your support! Have a great Turkey Day!
A picture from our fundraiser at Madeira on November 19th. Thank you to everyone who contributed!
