EcoArt: Looking At Conservation Through A New Lens

Art tells us stories about the world around us give us a new perspective to how we can help the world be a better place by making small changes in our daily lives.

Jaidacyn Madrigal, under the alias of EcoGirl, works to bring conservation to people in a way they have not seen before. Using art as a bridge, EcoGirl creates species specific sculptures that address problems different animals face. She says, “activism art helps me spread my message.” We hope to inspire her to partner with Kashmir World Foundation (KwF) and begin to shed light on the issues snow leopards face in the Himalayas.

Eagleray UAS Scans for Poachers - sUAS News - The Business of Drones

The inspiration for the Eagle Ray came from Mark Page’s BWB work many years ago, specifically his Killer Bee design, which caught the attention of Dr. Ronald Pandolfi . From there, Pandolfi and his colleague Sean Bain, an Aerospace engineer for KwF, began sketching ideas, doing BWB experiments, and designed the foundation for Eagle Ray. Since then, the Eagle Ray has evolved, with Page’s addition of the latest airfoil technology and “other BWB secret sauce”, but it remains close to Pandolfi and Bain’s original design. The aircraft is named after the Eagle Ray, an elegant cousin of the shark which evolved into an all-wing design that glides undetectably through the ocean like Eagle Ray aircraft will glide through the skies.

They joined the KwF Team in Merida for the #flyforconservationmexico2018 expedition to train Pronatura Península de Yucatán, A.C staff how to fly drones on the beach in Celestun. They also helped collect data on sea turtle tracks for KwF's onboard image processing of sea turtle activities for Mishell Drones project.
