Last Winter's Challenge Exchange Finished Quilts

Over 30 members participated in this challenge, begun last Fall. Participants were organized in groups of six. They met once a month through the Covid winter, often in a chilly outdoor setting, to exchange fabrics and patterns. Block patterns were chosen from Moda’s Blockheads II collection, created with each participant’s supplied fabric. Each owner was to design an original quilt from the
blocks returned to her.

What a fun time hearing everyone’s exchange experiences. We met in cars in a parking lot, garages, anywhere safe.

Good Thursday everyone! Little bit of history for you. Also, if anyone has any baby/children’s quilt books from may 10yrs that they would like to donate to the library it would be welcome. We have a very SLIM amount of them and I would like to expand it a bit. You can bring them to pottawattomie on Monday or the in person Augusta meeting.

Has anyone been to Renee's House of Quilting lately. Even nicer and more fun than it was before. Plus they have an online website that is mail order only that their son, Gabriel Savage, is managing. Right now free shipping with 50.00 purchase. Really large store now. And much brighter. Jon made the mistake of saying to take my time. It is in Williamsburg, MI, close to Traverse City.

Purchased a GREAT new book for our library requested by a guild member.
P.S. I have many many more books I will be posting in the comig days. They were graciously donated by Chris Bussell's daughter. They are beautiful books for children/babies. Things in it like how to make bibs, diaper bags, hats, booties, crib mobile all from sewing. Another book is all about PILLOWS!

Hello members- I have received this question:
“If we did a challenge and pictures of those have already been taken will they automatically be added to the virtual show?”

The answer is no. The challenge photos will be in a separate slideshow presentation by the main officers. They do not need to be included in your “2” for the “coast guard virtual show”

Thanks Chris Christine D. Hornby for the great question!!’

We had a wonderful zoom presentation from Lilo Bowman Monday night about organizing your work space. She gave us lots of tips and ideas to use just what we have or can purchase inexpensively. Please check out her website:
https://www.lilobowman.com/
She also has written a book that may be of interest to many of you, available from her or on Amazon. Possibly our guild library can purchase the book.
If you were not able to watch the zoom I am sorry. Most speakers do not allow us to record their presentation.

What is a Batik?
A batik (buh-teek) is an Indonesian wax-resist dyeing technique in which wax is applied to fabric in specific areas, whether by hand or with a copper stamp. When the wax hardens, the fabric is submerged in dye - a process that can involve several dippings, dryings, and colors! The fabric is then boiled to remove the wax, revealing areas untouched by dye. Then the process starts again!

This technique creates fabric that appears cracked, marbled, and perfectly imperfect. Every yard is vibrant and always unique, each slightly different than the last thanks to the hand of a skilled artisan

Received the most beautiful and unique get well card yesterday from one of our program leaders Wendy Rice! So creative, by far my favorite card yet! Also, I can not thank everyone enough who has sent me get well cards over the past 2 weeks. I have received overwhelming love and prayers from our guild members and am truly touched by the support. Healing is going as best it can for me being an inpatient person! Below is just some of the cards that both myself and Marianne Stuparits have received (Mariannes cards from her heart attack just 2 weeks before my accident)

Tomorrow is National Quilting day! Saturday, March 20 is National Quilting Day – for lighthouse quilt guild members it's a day to get together and sew to our hearts content! Since we can't be together face-to-face, let's do a Stay-at-Home-Quilting day while we visit in a zoom room. Information on zoom room is in an email from the guild. Get a project ready, pull some fabric off the shelf, get your meals planned for the day, and fill you bobbins. Now sing it with me. “Let’s get together, yeah, yeah, yeah” Let’s get together to have a sewing good time! See you Saturday morning at 9:00 am, the official start of the day is at 9:15. You can sew in you PJ's or other comfy clothes, just remember, if your video is on we can see you.

I have 2 fairly large pieces of good quality fabric left over from pillows made for me. I do not sew and do not want to just throw it away. Any one interested. One is khaki and the other is a burnt orange color. I wouldbe glad to do a porch drop off.
