VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT VACCINATION SITES! Are you 18 or older and interested in helping at Montgomery County vaccination sites? The Maryland Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) needs your assistance, particularly as the number of sites and vaccines continue to grow.

Volunteers can serve in medical and nonmedical roles. Individuals who are currently licensed as physicians, nurses (RN, NP, APRN), physician assistants, pharmacists, podiatrists, EMTs, paramedics, veterinarians, dentists, and dental hygienists (licensed for anesthesia) are needed to be vaccinators. In addition, the MRC is recruiting nonmedical volunteers to assist with logistics support, data entry, and client registration. All volunteers will be provided with appropriate personal protective equipment for the role in which they are volunteering.

Visit https://montgomerycountymd.galaxydigital.com/need/detail/?need_id=560526 to learn more. Or if you're ready to register to volunteer, go to https://mdresponds.health.maryland.gov/.

COVID Community Outreach - Montgomery County | Montgomery County Volunteer Center

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT VACCINE PREREGISTRATION EVENTS. Help get our county vaccinated! Montgomery County needs volunteer Community Ambassadors to provide in-person outreach at county-supported events such as food distributions in communities where COVID-19 rates are high, vaccination rates are low, and barriers to receiving the vaccine are significant.

Duties include distributing vaccine flyers, answering questions, hosting information tables, distributing COVID kits, and offering assistance with preregistering for a vaccine appointment with the county. Ability to speak Spanish (or other languages) is extremely valuable. Volunteers follow COVID-safe precautions, including maintaining social distance, wearing masks, using hand sanitizer, and relying on posters with large QR codes.

To get started as a community ambassador volunteer, you must first sign up for a required online information session. Go to the Montgomery County Vaccination Volunteer page at https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/volunteercenter/volunteers/vaxvols.html, scroll down, and, under "Resources for Community Ambassadors," you’ll see dates and links to sign up.

After you've attended an info session, you'll be able to register for specific community ambassador needs at https://montgomerycountymd.galaxydigital.com/agency/detail/vax/

How Volunteering Can Help Your Mental Health

Volunteering is a two-fer--and especially powerful during this pandemic, as helping others helps your own mental well-being. Read the scientific proof here and then find a volunteer opportunity at www.montgomeryvolunteer.org.

According to new research, people become happier over time after they start volunteering.

This 9/11 day of remembrance is also a national day of service--a day when Americans across the country are called to volunteer in their local communities in tribute to the individuals lost and injured in the attacks, first responders, and those who have risen in service to defend freedom. So today, grab a bag and pick up litter in your neighborhood, offer to grocery shop for your elderly neighbor, or choose from the hundreds of opportunities on the Volunteer Center website, including lots of virtual volunteer activities that can be done from home (http://bit.ly/mocovirtualvolunteer) and several opportunities to help spread the word about the Census (https://montgomerycountymd.galaxydigital.com/need/index?agency_id=101487) , which is scheduled to wrap up this month.
