IMPORTANT: This Monday Dec 7th is deadline to submit our decision regarding in-person or online instruction for our children for second semester. Note it is important to encourage families to complete the MCPS return to school survey. As of Thursday, only 67% of students had completed it. Those who do not complete the survey (about 50,000 students as of Thursday) will default to virtual and will not be able to change to in-person. https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/reopening/family-preference-survey.aspx In the last month plenty of new evidence has arrived from NYC, Florida, Chicago, whole Europe. Children K-12 have extremely low transmission rates. Schools they don't drive the pandemic. This explains successful and SAFE in-person experiences there for 3 months now. Following this evidence, Dr. Fauci asked for schools reopening last week, and CDC released yesterday new safety guidelines stating: "Kindergarten through grade 12 schools should be the last settings to close after all other mitigation measures have been employed and the first to reopen when they can do so safely" (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6949e2.htm?s_cid=mm6949e2_w) But still many families feel unsafe about schools re-opening. This post doesn't pretend to open any discussion, but only remind about incoming deadline and provide access to new information recently available. If you are interested to know further about SAFE school re-opening now available, you can join these groups: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1800959980043699/ (english) https://www.facebook.com/groups/390332072146338/ (español)
