The last 2 weeks in Hawassa went so fast. So much happened during this period. We were able to exchange so much experience between the Hawassa local health professionals and the HANDS team. We are very grateful to the team of volunteers who sacrificed their valuable time and made a difference. Our gratitude also goes to the local health professionals for their hospitality and willingness to share their experience. Furthermore, we appreciate all our well wishers and our unwavering supporters over the years. If not for these individuals and institutions, these missions would not have succeeded.
More detail report will come soon. In the meantime, I will leave you with the following picture which gives me a sense of pride in what we achieved over the last 2 weeks.

So much happened the last 1 week since the HANDS team arrived in Hawassa. Thanks to Suzie, she has been sending out updates on her page.
After the long flight, we settled down in our hotel (Oasis International). Fancy name!
Our first 2 days were the usual as our previous trips. A pile of work in front of us and lots and lots of frustrations. Having an amazing team and very cooperative local health professionals, we were able to achieve so much in few days.
From such a small and cramped unit, we were able to move to a bigger and more equipped unit. Don’t get me wrong, so much is still missing. We introduced the proper bubble CPAP (breathing machine) and donated vital equipment like phototherapy machine and oxygen monitoring pulse oximeters. Mothers who has been lying on the floor on the hallways were placed in a proper rooms.
Lots and lots of teachings. The interns are so eager to learn, the nurses are so dedicated to help the babies and the faculty and hospital administration is making every possible effort to make changes.
So much grateful to my volunteers, the Hawassa local health professionals and all our best wishers.
So much to achieve in the coming week. In the meantime, enjoy some of these pictures.

1st day was good. The flight was obviously long. Arrived in Addis and all our goods went directly to Hawassa. Suzie and Ray even found a good WiFi spot in the airport and talked to their family. Arrived in Hawassa in the afternoon. Suzie is even having a staring contest with a monkey 🐵. Dinner was good. Now, everyone is exhausted and jet lagged and heading to bed. Thanks everyone who wished us good luck. 👍
