Hogan’s Shift and Shaft

Our cities provide essential services to the community and now we're being asked to do more with fewer resources. "Hogan proposed cutting $200 million in state aid for public schools (a move that needs General Assembly approval) and $36 million in state aid for community colleges. His package also contains another $130 million “unallocated reduction to local governments” that needs to be considered by the General Assembly. There may also be more mid-year cut packages. The Board of Public Works including Comptroller Peter Franchot and Nancy Kornblith Kopp, will review and vote on these proposed cuts during their meeting tomorrow.

Women's Equality Day 2020 Celebration Across Maryland

The 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment is also the 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act — two critical milestones in securing women’s right to vote. The stakes for the upcoming election couldn’t be higher. As women and their families continue to bear the brunt of the worst economic downturn of our lifetimes, our voices MUST be heard this November. We MUST cherish the gift that the suffragists fought to give us.

Del. Jheanelle Wilkins: Rent Is Due April 1 – Maryland Matters

I’m hearing from more and more residents and landlords fearing the first of the month when most bills are due, namely #rent and #mortgage, among other priorities like food, utilities, healthcare, childcare, etc..

While #evictions and #foreclosures are temporarily suspended, these short-term solutions will have long term consequences for the most vulnerable residents in our communities, who will still be required to repay any unpaid bills.

Delegate Jheanelle Wilkins is urging residents and landlords to reach out to Governor Larry Hogan for real relief now!

“Governor Hogan has made tough decisions and demonstrated critical leadership in this crisis. Contact the governor via the link below and urge him to take action now to ease the financial burden on families and businesses”.

On April 1, Marylanders across our state who rent their homes will soon have a day of reckoning: the rent is due. On top of the fears of contracting COVID-19 and the many impacts of social distancing and closures, the reality is that the rent is due. As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, many …

Is this Laurie-Anne's birthday, Aug 13? Congratulations! 🚂
On MD 355, if one wished to make a left into South Summit Avenue, the left-turn arrow does not come on. I called 311 and got the expected story that State Highway Dept is in charge of that signal, and they are notified electronically in seconds if a light is out. Also, 311 already had this specific outage on file. But it does not get fixed! Can somebody at City Hall make a further complaint about this important signal? Thank you so much.
Congratulations again Laurie-Anne Sayles being sworn tonight in a Special City Mayor and City Council Meeting and as being elected as the 1st person of color to serve on Gaithersburg City Council!
Congrats Laurie-Anne Sayles just heard the wonderful news, show up and show out love.

bogus ethics complaint.
Boy, here's an issue for us all. The governor wants to widen I-270 and the MD part of the beltway. Does Gaithersburg need that? What housing would be lost? I say the state should--for a time--give priority to above-ground rail. There are already plans for expanded MARC service and for the purple line. Get those services going and see how people enjoy them. In the news we read that young people are not in a rush to get driver's licenses. Maybe they'd like to sit on trains and trolleys and play with their phones. Give that a chance before making the roads ever wider. That's my humble suggestion. Also build a trolley on the existing CCT alignment. Try good old electric transit. In the meantime, drive to the poll and vote for Laurie-Anne!
