The Montgomery Playhouse board would like to make it clear that we stand with the protesters fighting for racial justice in our communitues. Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the innocent Black Americans killed or injured due to the injust society we live in.

The recent events have given us time to reflect on the lack of racial equity and inclusion within the theater community and where we as the Montgomery Playhouse have fallen short.

The Montgomery Playhouse is committed to community theater that is inclusive and diverse. To start we will take immediate action to reach out to people of color in order to diversify our board. We will listen to Black and other disenfranchised members of our community and make sure their stories are heard and celebrated.

We see you.

Black Lives Matter.

In solidarity,

The Montgomery Playhouse Board

MEMBERSHIP MEETING - OCTOBER 6

Dear all,

We are planning a membership meeting on Sunday, October 6 to discuss the future of the Montgomery Playhouse. It will be held at the Christopher Courts Clubhouse at 18500 Fairlight Drive beginning at 4:00 PM. This is located across the street from the library in Montgomery Village and since the library is closed at this time, the library’s parking lot can be used.

As most of you know the board has elected not to submit plays to the Arts Barn this year. It has become increasingly difficult to mount productions given the board’s limited manpower, health issues, and advanced age. This does not mean that we are disbanding the Playhouse. We wouldn’t take a step of that magnitude without approaching the membership.

The current board has elected to step down to allow younger, more enthusiastic leadership to take the helm of the organization. This meeting will gauge the membership’s interest. If we find that there isn’t adequate interest and energy in continuing this 90-year-old venture, then the conversation will turn to the best way to go about closing our doors. If that is the case, the current board members will, of course, continue to fulfill their fiduciary responsibilities to the organization during this potential
time of transition.

We are posting this letter to include any who might be interested in this conversation. The Montgomery Playhouse has been a large part of all of our lives and this needs input from everyone.

We are hoping for a large turnout. Hope to see you there!

To my MP peeps...
1. I’m very sorry that I missed the 90th anniversary reception. I hope it went very well.
2. I’m also sorry that I have been remiss in asking for ushers for our production of how the other half lives which has two weekends left. However here’s the reason why...

I recently injured myself and I’ve got good news and bad news...
Good news is I didn’t break my hip as originally feared.
Bad news is I broke my pelvis! 😳
Good news is it’s not displaced so no surgery.
Bad news is I am wheelchair bound for the next month - walker only when absolutely necessary. Laying down or sitting reclined ok.
No stairs so it’s a good thing I don't have any in my house.

Needless to say I’m going to be a little MIA for a while but I welcome any contact via Facebook or texts. OK

Review: 'The Last Five Years' by Montgomery Playhouse - DC Metro Theater Arts

Congratulations to Matthew Ratz, Lauren-Nicole Gabel and the Creative Team and Crew of "The Last 5 Years" for an excellent review!
Especially, "Lauren-Nicole Gabel delivers an intense performance as Catherine. Ms. Gabel has the ability to make the audience feel the character’s pain and anguish from the very first minutes of the story. Through small movements and facial expressions, Ms. Gabel ably conveys the character’s feelings and gives the audience insight into the inner workings of this complicated relationship."
