Journey's Crossing Mission Trip - Casa Hogar de San Juan, Mexico

Journey's Crossing Mission Trip - Casa Hogar de San Juan, Mexico Our team helps support a home for orphaned and abandoned children in central Mexico
We are supported by Journeys Crossing, A Christian Church (www.ilovethischurch.com)

Casa Hogar de San Juan is a home that was started in the 1970s by an American missionary couple, the Murrays. Forty some years later, the home is run by the Murray's adopted son and his wife who also grew up in the home. They care for children ranging in age from 2-18 and have approximately 25 children living in the home at any one time. Our church sends a team down to work at Casa Hogar every summer. This year, we plan to do some repair projects around the home. We will also take the children to the state fair and possibly on another small outing. A big part of our budget will also go to buying new backpacks, school supplies, and school shoes for all of the children of the home.

Mission: We exist to love on the Casa Hogar family of central Mexico! Our team provides support to the home by doing repair work, planning fun events for the children, and paying for back-to-school supplies and shoes.

The rest of the team is due to arrive tonight around 11pm. We'll post another update when they get here.

Thanks for your continued prayers!

Check back here for updates, and pray for a great trip, for health and safety, for our team to be made more aware of how God is working, and that our time there would be a blessing to the family of Casa Hogar.

You just need to have a passion for helping kids ... and eating awesome food! ;-) No special skills required and you don't need to speak Spanish. First info meeting is this Sunday. If you're interested, let me know and I'll send you some more details. Gracias!

Hi fellow Mexico alum and friends. This is Heather. I was craving tacos volcanes SOOO much today. And I've been thinking about our friends in Mexico. Anyone have any good memories or stories to share?!

08/22/2011

Hey from Heather- still haven't had a chance to upload pictures yet (I just got home Saturday!). Hoping to get to it this week. Thanks to everyone who was thinking about us, checking our page, and praying for us. Casa Hogar is an amazing place!

Moving a little slowly this morning after a long night at the fair! The kids had a great time last night, playing games, riding rides, eating tacos, and shopping. We stayed until 1 am! This morning we are having a devotional service at the house with our group of 7 before heading to church with the family from Casa Hogar. This afternoon we have lunch, a pinata to destroy, and another trip to the fair with the ninos medianos!

It's been a busy day ... shopping for school supplies, painting and electrical work. Dave had an adventure in Centro with Juan when the car they were in had transmission problems. But it all worked out in the end ... like it always does. Tonight, it's off to the fair (La Feria) with the older kids. It's going to be a late night! More pictures tomorrow!

Tonight has been spent making bracelets with kids, playing spoons, watching movies, and playing the piano! Lots of fun. It's almost midnight, and the kids are still going strong. :)

08/13/2011

We did more painting this morning, and this afternoon, we had our tourism day in town. Checked out the mercado, a coffee store, and some other cool places. We stopped for ice cream, and when a couple of our girls decided not to have any, Juan said there was no way they could be from Journeys if they were turning down ice cream!

This evening, we handed out letters from JC elementary kids to the students in the home. They were excited and kept asking us to translate! We also played a mean game of spoons...in fact Emma and Lianna are still playing the last game! A few of the older kids are watching GI Joe with Dave and John, and it's just about bedtime!

Buenos dias desde SLP! We arrived safely last night and were met at the airport by Juan, Selene, and a couple of the older boys. We just finished reuniting with the kids, and some of us meeting them for the first time! We all ate breakfast together, and we will be heading in to town to buy some supplies and agua soon! More updates later!

Everyone is united...getting ready to board to SLP!

08/09/2011

Alex, Emma and Dave are in Cleveland, OH waiting on a connecting flight to Houston to meetup with the rest of the group. Heather has reported they have boarded their plane in DC. Everything is going according to plan so far!

08/09/2011

Pray also for Heather who has come down with Laila's cold. Pray for quick recoveries from the sore throat and stuffiness for both of them and that it wouldn't interfere with Heather's travels and trip.

08/09/2011

Hey friends- the team will head to SLP today! Dave, Alex, and Emma will be flying from Montreal, and John, Mandy, Heather, and Lianna will be flying from DC, and everyone will unite in Houston for the flight to SLP! Pray for safe travels and easy connections!

08/08/2011

There are 7 people on our team this year-two high school students, and 5 adults. God has really brought a great team of people together, and we are so excited for this journey. Pray for safe travels tomorrow and that all connections will be made. Pray also for our families at home!
