Today is April 25th, National Rebuilding Day! Our [Re]Builders would be gathering throughout Montgomery County to complete home repairs for our neighbors most in need. As we all know, this had to be paused to ensure everyone's health and safety during this uncertain time. Our work is not done and our mission continues - [Re]Builders will be back repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives as soon as it is safe to do so.

In the spirit of National Rebuilding Day, let’s have some fun! If you have ever participated in National Rebuilding Day- let us know by commenting under this post! Ready, set, go!!! 😬

Governor Larry Hogan

Governor Larry Hogan

Yesterday, I enacted an executive order which will require the wearing of masks or face coverings when inside any retail establishments or when riding any form of public transportation in Maryland. A few things to remember:

• This directive goes into effect on Saturday, April 18, at 7 a.m.

• Marylanders can easily make cloth face coverings at home from bandanas, scarves, or t-shirts. The CDC has instructions and guidelines here: https://bit.ly/3ag7NBO

• Masks will be required for store customers and transit riders over age 9. Adults should make reasonable efforts to use face coverings on children ages 2-9. Masks should not be placed on young children under age 2 or anyone who has trouble breathing.

• The wearing of masks is something that we may all have to become more accustomed to in order to safely reopen our state.

This executive order also directs retail establishments to implement policies that protect employees and promote social distancing for customers. Read it here: bit.ly/3a9w1O5

We are incredibly grateful to those Marylanders who are staying home, making extraordinary sacrifices, and being heroes to their neighbors. We are all in this together, and we will get through this together.

This is great news that we received from Lowe's Home Improvement! Rebuilding Together Montgomery County is looking forward to resuming home repairs as soon as we can!

We want to thank Lowe’s Home Improvement for their generous $1 million commitment to Rebuilding Together affiliates across the country. These funds will allow us to continue operations and support emergency home repairs, which help our most vulnerable neighbors shelter in place. #WeAreRebuilders #LoweHeroes

This morning, I enacted an executive order which closes all non-essential businesses, organizations, establishments, and facilities in Maryland effective at 5 p.m. today.

In addition to those businesses that have already been closed by our prior executive orders, this new executive order closes all those businesses NOT covered by the federal guidelines defining ‘critical infrastructure sectors,’ which include health care, food and agriculture, energy, public works, community-based government operations, the chemical, hazardous materials, and defense industrial base sectors, law enforcement and public safety, transportation, critical manufacturing, financial services, and water and wastewater.

Let me be clear: at this time we are not issuing or ordering a ‘shelter in place’ directive forcing people to stay home. However, we are telling all Marylanders to follow all of the directives we have issued and to follow the state law against crowds of more than 10 people. Unless you have an essential reason to leave your house, stay in your home.
