QO Theatre Fans
Dear QO Theatre Community,
We truly hope that our QO Theatre community members have been able to stay safe and healthy during this unprecedented time. We have missed seeing the various members of this great Cougar community.
When we left school in March, we were incredibly inspired by the strength of our students that were involved in our Spring 2020 show, The Addams Family. Even with all the uncertainty, they remained upbeat and positive that our show would go on. Throughout the shutdown, many of them have reached out to each other and us to check in and keep spreading that love and positivity. It is heart-warming to know how much of a family our students have become!
Unfortunately, this pandemic has caused many productions across the country to have to close their doors and cancel performances. It is with the deepest sorrow that we have to officially announce that due to the closure of school for the rest of the year and in order to protect our students, production team, and audience members, our Spring 2020 production will not happen this year. You may not know, but The Addams Family was fully staged, the costumes and sets were almost completed, and we already had our publicity blitz to promote the production. We want to thank the local businesses that allowed our promotional materials to be placed in your establishments! Our students and production staff poured so much into making the production amazing, and it makes us sad that audiences will not get to see all of their hard work.
A note about advertisements that were purchased for our show program: we obviously will not be having a hardcopy (paper) show program for this cancelled production. However, we want to still give our students a memento for their hard work, as well as provide businesses and community members the opportunity to advertise. Therefore, we will be providing a digital version of the intended show program. We understand this is different from our original intent, so we will be offering those who purchased an ad the opportunity for a refund. Any refunded ads will be pulled from the digital version. Advertisers will be contacted directly about their ad, or can contact Linda Lee (Producer) at [email protected].
While we know we cannot predict the future, we are hoping that we will be able to all be back together in the Fall. We appreciate the community’s continued support as we figure out our productions for the 2020-2021 school year. Stay tuned!
Stay safe and healthy!

Quince Orchard Cluster
Due to a spike in usage nationwide, the web conferencing platform Zoom is currently experiencing an unexpected partial outage nationwide. This affects the ability to join “via web browser,” which is what most students and staff use when connecting with a Chromebook. When attempting to log in and join a Zoom Web Conference, an error message appears. The error states “403 Forbidden.”
To address this, MCPS has automatically pushed the Zoom app to all student accounts. This app will show up on students’ accounts automatically. It does not require the student to install anything if they are on their Chromebooks or if they are using the Chrome browser with their MCPS-supplied Google account.
If students are using a personal device such as a PC, MacBook or an iPad, they may be prompted to install the Zoom app when attempting to connect to a meeting. After doing so, they will be allowed to join the Zoom web conference.
MCPS is updating support materials that will help parents, students and staff with any issues that may come up as they engage in online learning using our myMCPS and Google Classroom platforms. This information will be shared with the community in the coming days.

Mulch Spreading Update
Since the school closure is extended until at least April 27, the QOHS Football team will not be able to do the mulch spreading this weekend as originally planned. Customers who have purchased spreading have a couple options:
• Wait until 4/27 when we will reevaluate
• Hire someone else to do your spreading (or do it yourself) and either get a refund or have your purchase become a donation to the football team
The Booster Club will contact all customers directly to resolve the issue.
Please see the following letter from Mrs. Thomas:
Good Afternoon Quince Orchard Students, Staff, and Families,
Tomorrow, Thursday, March 26, 2020, Quince Orchard High School will be distributing Chromebooks to Quince Orchard High School students. Devices are available in limited supply and are reserved for students who do not have access to a computer or laptop (device capable of accessing online learning material) at home. Information will also be provided on Comcast assistance with helping families connect to the Internet at home.
Chromebooks will be distributed as follows:
Only currently enrolled Quince Orchard High School students are eligible for Chromebooks distributed at QOHS. Student, Parents, or Guardians may pick up Chromebooks for the QO enrolled student.
Student, Parents, or Guardians will need to present the student ID or student ID number at the time of Chromebook pick-up.
Curb Side pickup will occur from 8:00-11:00 am.
Curb Side pickup will occur in the curved loop directly in front of the main entrance. Parents/Guardians will not exit vehicles.
Walk-Up Pick pickup will occur from 8:00-11:00 am.
Walk-Up pickup will occur in the school vestibule just inside the main entry door.
MCPS Student Login Information was sent to families via email on 3/16/20. The numeric portion of your child’s login, before @mcpsmd.net is the student ID number. Parents/guardians unable to locate their child’s ID number will be assisted on site.
Slowing the spread of COVID-19 requires everyone to follow the guidance of health officials. An important piece of this effort is social distancing. This means avoiding gathering in groups of more than 10 and keeping a safe distance from others in the group. We ask those picking up Chromebooks follow all social distancing guidance provided by the CDC and federal, state and local health officials.
Information about obtaining free internet service can be found by clicking the link below.
As a reminder, the Chromebooks are for students who do not currently have a device at home.
Additional information will be shared about continuity of learning plans, distribution of Chromebook devices, and much more. Please visit the MCPS website for the most up-to-date information as we transition to a new online platform for teaching and learning.
Thank you for your patience and support during this truly unprecedented time that requires all of us to reexamine how we educate and meet the needs of our students during this lengthy hiatus of closed school buildings.
We miss our students and staff. Please continue to take care of yourselves and be well.
All the best,
QO is inviting students, staff, parents and families to participate in our Virtual Spirit Week March 23-27! Can’t wait to see the pictures of our Cougar Pride 🐾❤️ Share and Spread! #QOmarcheson
As many are adjusting to these circumstances we ask that you please remember all of the amazing small businesses in our community. Remember how they’ve always supported not only the Boosters and QO high school but also our feeder schools by giving donations of food or hosting us for community nights or donating gift cards or baskets for our silent auctions and after proms. Now they need us to help them! Please consider ordering out or if you don’t feel comfortable doing that buying a gift card to use in the future. To those businesses who’re members of this page please feel free to post if you’re open below. Also any other information you feel we should have. We want to thank you for being there for us and let you know that we are here for you!
The Booster Club Board
Dear Quince Orchard High School Community,
The Booster Club and the incredible mulch sales committee would like to express our extreme gratitude for this community. We can’t say enough how amazing it was to have everyone rally around the common cause of supporting QOHS to ensure the biggest Booster fundraiser of the year actually came to fruition despite new constraints. We apologize to all who were inconvenienced as well as to those who were regrettably given misinformation. We were working as quickly as possible to make sure the mulch sale could continue. The overall mood of the day starting at 8 am was one of cheerfulness, patience and understanding that we are all doing our very best in this unprecedented time in our country. Thank you for the smiles, elbow bumps, car dancing and pizza sprinting spirit you all brought today. Thank you as well to parent volunteers that we actually had to turn away because so many of you showed up willing to help.Thank you as well to the QOHS administration and staff for all your support. We are so very lucky to live in this community.
There are a few deliveries of black mulch still to be made this week, but other than those, the sale is complete. To those customers who purchased spreading, the intention is to complete this in 2 weeks, once the school closure ban is lifted.
Hoping everyone stays safe, has plenty of TP and paper towels and we hope to see you all soon.
