It is with great pride that we announce that on, May 1st 2014, It’s a Sensory World! filed the Certificate of Formation as a non-profit entity in the State of Texas. We will be filing our federal 501(c)(3) status soon.
Since we opened our doors in October 2007, we have grown from being a simple recreational gym, where parents could drop-in to play with their special children, to a center that offers recreational, therapeutic and educational programs for children with special needs and developmental delays.
Our flagship S.M.A.R.T. (Sensory, Motor, Academics, Recreation and Technology) School Program, which is in its third year has been extremely successful. Each and every child enrolled in our program has made significant progress in their language, academic, motor, social and behavior goals. Starting with just 2 children, we have now grown to an enrollment of 16. We attribute this to our highly trained staff, low (3:1 or 4:1) student to teacher ratios and a unique approach that combines techniques from Speech therapy, Special Education and Behavioral Intervention.
Our recreational programs have expanded beyond our Parent-Guided and Staff-Guided Sensory Circuits to include our Peer Play Date Program, Summer Camps, Sports Skills, Parents’ Night Out and Birthday Parties.
Our therapeutic programs are best articulated by the phrase “Have you done your therapy homework?” Students who need supplemental services to therapy or who have been discharged from therapy come to us to continue to maintain and improve their skills.
Converting to a non-profit will enable us to continue serving the community in a cost effective manner, while maintaining the quality of our programs. It will open up many more options for families when they apply for educational grants. We can solicit community participation through volunteer organizations. Most importantly, it will enable It’s a Sensory World! to raise funds to expand our facility and serve more students than we do currently and even offer scholarships to families in need.
We are thrilled at all the avenues this will open for our organization as we move forward. It’s a Sensory World! does not belong to us anymore, it belongs to ALL OF YOU. We promise to be good stewards of this new organization and continue to serve you to the best of our ability.
