Humane Society of Terrell County

Humane Society of Terrell County We are a small, non-for-profit, no-kill rescue group, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and placing homeless pets in southwest Georgia. The Humane Society of Terrell County is a network of foster homes (we do not have a shelter) in Terrell, Lee, Dougherty and surrounding counties providing care for homeless animals until a permanent home can be found.
(14)

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We do not euthanize animals as a means of population control. Instead, we focus on spay/neuter efforts to reduce the pet overpopulation. We receive no money from government sources and rely solely on donations and fundraisers to house and care for our homeless pets. We provide vet care, vaccinations, shelter, food, training, and most importantly, love, to the pets in our care. We are not animal control and only take in pets that are surrendered to us by legal means. While we strongly opposed to animal cruelty and neglect of all kinds, we are not authorized to pursue investigations or confiscation of animals. If you suspect animal abuse of any kind, please report this to your local animal control and/or law enforcement so that proper action maybe taken (you can do this confidentially and you will be helping save a life!)

Mission: HSTC has adopted a no-kill policy. We do not euthanize animals as a means of population control. Instead, we focus on spay/neuter efforts to reduce the pet overpopulation. Our ultimate goal is that there be no more homeless pets. We hope someday to have a no-kill animal sanctuary.

This is Charlie -he is one of four Feist litter mates given up by his breeder because he did not show an interest in hunting (Brutus, Sam are the brothers, Lucy was brought to us earlier in the year).. Charlie is very sweet -he would love an active home that will give him lots of time and attention. He is good with others dogs and he likes kids (untested with cats). Charlie is up to date with shots, neutered, negative for heartworms/on prevention, and crate trained. If more than one littermate is adopted, we do give a discount on the adoption fees. If you wouldl like to adopt Charlie or one of his littermates, please submit an adoption application to www.myhstc.org

Adoption fee is $85 which includes all veterinary care (if a littermate is also adopted, second adoption fee is reduced to $45)

This cool dude is Buford, a mastiff mix around a year old. He was picked up by animal control as a stray and not reclaimed. It is obvious Buford was on his own for awhile before being rescued. He has a few small scars on his face and he is missing a little bit of his tongue. Despite this, he is probably the happiest dog you will ever meet. Honestly, he never meets a stranger and loves everyone, he is very affectionate and outgoing and will do anything to please you. He is good with other dogs (untested with cats) and he likes children, he is just a little unaware of how strong he is and he might accidentally knock over a small child (he would never do it on purpose). Buford is up to date with shots, neutered, negative for heartworms/on prevention and crate trained. To adopt Buford, please visit our website at www.myhstc.org and submit an adoption application.

Daisy got no love at PetSmart the other weekend. She really is a bundle of joy and love, she is a 5 year old bulldog mix who was picked up as stray by animal control and not reclaimed. After receiving some much needed veterinary care, sweet Daisy is ready to be adopted! Daisy is extremely friendly and outgoing, she loves to be petted and is generally happy being where ever she can receive attention. She is good with other dogs as long as she is introduced properly (we do not know about cats). She is also good with kids and would be great for an active household. She knows some basic commands and learns easily. Daisy is spayed, current on shots, on heartworm prevention and crate trained. She is currently on a special diet and may need allergy shots. If you would like to adopt Daisy, please submit an adoption application by visiting our website at www.myhstc.org

Adoption fee is $85 which includes all vet work

This sweet dog is Jojo, she is a rat terrier mix around 3-4 years old. Jojo and another small male dog (who was likely her son) were picked up as strays by animal control and not reclaimed. Her male companion was healthy and adopted quickly. It has taken us some time to get Jojo to a healthy state and ready to be adopted. She came in pregnant and positive for heartworms. We were concerned giving birth to a litter would be difficult for her and there was a strong chance of complications. We decided to spay her and then let her recover for a while before starting heartworm treatment. Jojo has now finished treatment and she is healthy and ready to go! Jojo is a very sweet dog -she loves people and is happy to be where ever you are. She is good with other dogs and likes kids. She is way too interested in cats so we would not recommend her for a home with cats. She is smart and eager to please. Jojo is up to date with vaccinations, on heartworm prevention, spayed and housebroken. For adoption, please visit our website at www.myhstc.org

A Rotthound? Who knows? But what we can tell you is this guy has personality plus. He is fun and goofy and affectionate, everyone who meets him loves him. Monty likes to go for walks and generally be where ever the people are. He loves kids and he is good with most other dogs but he has never been around cats. This is Hopper Ross, a 2 year old pure bred GSD. He was given up by his owners because they had fallen on hard times and were unable to afford to take care of him. It has taken us some time to return him to a healthy state. He came to us extremely thin and malnurished and he had heartworms. Over time, we have been able to restore him to a healthy weight and he has bsuccessfully been treated for heartworms. Hopper Ross loves people, he is very sweet and affectionate. However, he can be finicky around other dogs, especially males. He will not tolerate an ill behaved dog getting in his face and he will not back down from a fight if he is antogonized. He either needs to be an only dog or in a home with a very laid back female that will give him plenty of space. He is will also chase cats, therefore we do not recommend a home with felines. He has been around older children, we are not sure how he would do with little ones. Hopper Ross walks well on leash and knows some basic commands. He will be an excellent pet for the right home. He is up to date with shots, neutered, on heartworm prevention and housebroken. For adoption, please submit an adoption application at www.myhstc.org

Look at this face! You know you need a Buddy. You have a 3 day weekend to fill out that application!!!

This little guy is Buddy, a yorkie mix around a year old. He was rescued from a busy highway by a good samaritan. Attempts to find an owner were unsuccessful so he was brought to us to find a new home. Buddy was covered head to toe in fleas when he first arrived. He was anemic and had begun losing his fur. Now that he has been treated for fleas and given some fluids, he is looking much better and his fur is beginning to all grow back. Buddy is a sweet dog -he is pretty calm and would be an excellent companion for someone looking for a nice lap dog. He doesn't seem to mind other dogs or cats. Older children would be OK. Buddy is up to date with vaccinations, neutered, negatvie for heartworms/on prevention and working on crate training/housebreaking. For adoption, please submit an adoption application at www.myhstc.org

Meet Molly. She is looking for a new home because her owner is having some medical issues and is no longer able to care for her. She is a senior girl, but don't let her age fool you. She is still quite energetic and likes to play. Molly is only 28 lbs and house trained. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, on heartworm prevention and microchipped. Molly would probably do best in a home with no other dogs. She is a little unsure of children. Teenagers would probably be OK. We are unsure about cats. If you can give Molly her forever home, please fill out an application at myhstc.org or call 229-995-7845 if you have any questions. Applications can be submitted at www.myhstc.org

Adoption fee is $85

We do allow out of state adoptions however, you must be willing to travel in person to adopt. We do not transport nor ship sight unseen pets for many reasons.

This miracle young dog is Roxy, a pit bull less than a year old. Why is she a miracle you ask? Because it is a miracle she is alive and now thriving. Roxy was picked up by animal control with a chain collar embedded around her neck (before pictures can be provided upon request). The officers immediately rushed her to our vet where she underwent surgery to remove the collar. Weeks later, her stitches have been removed, the wounds completed healed and she has just a few small scars to show the ordeal she endured. You would think Roxy might hold a grudge against humans for what was done to her but she feels exactly the opposite. She loves people and wants nothing more than to be right where ever the people are-dogs really are the most forgiving of creatures. She loves children and is great with other dogs but we have learned she wants to play too roughly for cats. She really is a special dog and deserves a special home. Roxy is up to date with shots, spayed, crate trained, negative for heartworms and on prevention. If you think you can provide a loving home to Roxy, please visit our website at www.myhstc.org to submit an adoption application..

They call me Grayson. Everyone who sees me says "OMG, what a beautiful cat! Don't they know I am an alpha male? I am Handsome, and I know it.

When we first meet, I may be a little nonchalant. But, if I like you, I just might sit next to you or, if I really like you, I’ll sit on your lap and allow you to massage me. I know what you’ll say when you touch me, "His fur is so luxurious". I take very good care of my appearance. There’s a lot of pressure when your only outfit is a velvet, gray tuxedo.

My friend, Oscar, is my best bud. We’d like to stay together, if possible. As I said, I’m an alpha male. He’s not. So he lets me be the boss.

Sometimes, I get very scared and I act crazy. The first time I went inside, I freaked out and went berserk. But, now, I love being inside where it is safe and clean and my paws stay much cleaner using a litterbox than digging in the dirt.

Although I may take a little time to trust you, I am a very loving, gentle companion. If you don’t have any other pets, Oscar and I would love to be a part of your family.

I am FIV+, but don't let that scare you - I can live safely with spayed/neutered, FIV- cats inside without any problems. Ask my adoption screener and she can give you all the information you need. You can also Google FIV+ cats and learn about us. We are awesome cats!! Seriously? Do I look unhealthy? Do I look like a cat that fights? Of course not!! I can't wait to meet you!!

For more information on Oscar and I visit [email protected].

Thank you for inviting me to your page
The gas delivery man picked up my dog off the ranch where I live and work. He took her to Sanderson about 60 miles away and left her with A Mrs Ford. When I found out what happen I called and left a message. She did not return my call. I then text her asking to speak to her about how this happen. Instead She replied" I will talk to the sheriff in the morning then call you". I wonder how she would feel if this happen to her? Would she want someone to speak to her? How would any one reading this feel? I begged her to just speak to me. I am heart broken over this but mostly because I KNOW they are well intended good people and animal lovers that want to help. This gas man claims to have found my dog here on private property tied to a tree with a bag of dog food there. I never heard of such a strange thing. Now I have learned that that is how some people get rid of a dog they do not want. I am outraged. I love my dog and would never do such a thing. The Sheriff and the Humane Soc. would do well to look into the validity of the story by the gas man.
This dog has been missing since Sunday the 8th. His name is Fromm. He is really sweet. If anyone has seen him or finds him please contact the numbers on the flyer. Thank you!
"Did somebody call me a good boy?" asked Grayson chasing a squirrel out of the fig tree. (If you are interested, Grayson is still available for adoption through Humane Society of Terrell County. We've been fostering him for a long time and he would love to be someone's special friend.)
We bet your supporters are always looking for more ways to help Humane Society of Terrell County do amazing work. And nominating you to receive donated litter through the Cat's Pride® Litter for Good™ program is one of the easiest. All you have to do is register by emailing [email protected]!
3 years ago today we adopted Bailey from you. She's doing great and is super spoiled!!!
7 years ago today (10/5/2011) we adopted this sweet baby from HSTC! He is such a good boy and chases the lizards off the back porch and keeps the squirrels out of the back yard. We love our Dillan and thank you for allowing us to adopt him. Happy Birthday Dillan!
Here's another picture of Josh Aka Loki and our son, Cuyler, who has special needs. I've already cried tears of joy when I saw Loki lay down next to Cuyler and allow him to reach out and pet him. He is going to be an important part of Cuyler's therapy and I can already tell that they are going to be best buds.
The Barr family is overjoyed to be welcoming sweet Josh Aka Loki into our family! We adopted him today and he's settling in just fine 😊
