Texas Lawmakers Approve Marijuana Decriminalization Bill

This is what progress looks like... still some hurdles to get over, but maybe just maybe... we will see some true criminal justice reform come out or Austin.

Texas would become the 25th state to remove the threat of jail for low-level cannabis possession if a bill approved by the House is enacted into law.

One of our many events last week!

Thank you to the Dallas Black Criminal Bar Association for allowing me to host such a spectacular event. In the midst of MLK Week, it was an honor to celebrate the diversity of our Dallas County Judiciary. I look forward to working with you all in the future. #albertfordallas

Today was nothing short of amazing! We were truly blessed to hear from this young scholar in honor of MLK! Thank you Nigel H. Redmond for coordinating this.

Today is the official day that is set aside to celebrate the legacy of a “true” freedom fighter and civil rights’ legend. While some just enjoy the paid day off, it’s important that we remember that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had no days off in his fight for our freedoms. Everywhere he went, people knew his struggle, his story, his fight. So on this day, which on the 15th he would have been 90 years old, I pray that you all didn’t look at it as just another day off; but instead pondered how you could be more like Martin. How exactly can you effect change in your community? We all can’t be Martin, but we can all work together to change our community for the better. Happy MLK Day!

Gov. Bill Haslam grants full clemency to Cyntoia Brown, sets Aug. 7 release from prison

It is incumbent upon elected officials on every level to remain cognizant that the law is supposed to be a living breathing thing where we look at people as individuals and assess their individual circumstances before handing down one size fits all sentences. I applaud the Governor for granting this young woman Clemency. Let’s pray the next Cyntoia avoids such a sentence at all. #cyntoiabrown #childsexvictim

Cyntoia Brown was convicted of murder after she shot a man when she was 16. On Aug. 7, she'll be free after Gov. Bill Haslam granted her clemency.
