On September 17, 2010 many dreams were fulfilled as ASTEF came to be more than a dream but a reality.

The Board of Directors thanks everyone who has played some part in making ASTEF a huge success. Your generosity has made dreams come true for countless Texas children, students, and educators!

As you plan your programs for the upcoming year, consider asking an ASTEF Director (current or former) to speak or use some of the many resources found on the ASTEF website (www.astef.org) with more being added soon. It's the perfect time for a program on ASTEF.

Remember, February is ASTEF Foundation Month/Giving Month. As always the Board has many exciting things planned for this special month. You won't want to miss out on these.

Happy Birthday ASTEF and thanks to ALL!

ASTEF: Olympics 2021

Tokyo may be having problems deciding if the 2021 Olympics will be held in August, but there is no question that the ASTEF Ticketed Event will be held in Denton, Texas, on Friday, June 18, at the Denton Convention Center at 11:00 am in the Chilton/Eagles 1 & 2 rooms.

Speaker for this Olympic event is Johnny Quinn, a McKinney, TX native. He is a member of the U.S. National Bobsled Team and competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics. Quinn also played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League, the Buffalo Bills (NFL), and the Green Bay Packers (NFL). He lettered in football and track and graduated with a degree in criminal justice from the University of North Texas. Quinn is the founder and president of The Athlete Watch, LLC, a web-based platform for student-athletes to market their skills to colleges and universities around the nation. Quinn has been featured on media outlets around the world, such as: ABC, BBC, CBS, CNN, ESPN, FOX, NBC, TIME, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal.

For more information about Johnny Quinn, visit his website.

Fun Fact

Johnny is the third person ever to have played in the NFL and to have competed in the Winter Olympics.

Herschel Walker (Bobsled) competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France.

Jeremy Bloom (Skiing) competed in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.

Johnny Quinn (Bobsled) competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

But there is much more.

Quinn is also a published author and will be selling and signing his book following the ticketed event.

Door prizes will be awarded to finalize this Olympic Celebration.

It's not too late to purchase your tickets for this event. Tickets can be purchased prior to convention by contacting Terri Caldwell at [email protected]. You will also be able to purchase tickets at the convention registration desk following the Thursday evening Opening Session.

You can make a difference.

Have you ever considered being a part of the ASTEF Board of Directors? Well, maybe you should.

This active and energetic group is elected each biennium at the Annual Meeting during the TSO State Convention. Directors serve on the Board for six years.

Many different skill sets go into this decision...number of years in DKG, work on other foundation boards, varied work experiences, currently employed or retired, from all over the State, and other talents and skills (too numerous to name here). All of these are considered in order to make this a diverse group that represents all Texas DKG members as they focus on Scholarships, Leadership, and Projects.

Applications are now being accepted. The application and a Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) document can be found on the ASTEF website (www.astef.org).

Applications are due APRIL 15 so, don’t delay...get yours in today!

Project Stipend Applications

Due April 1

Through chapter projects, members are able to reach out to others needing support and assistance through school, community, and chapter programs. At the same time, The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Texas State Organization, and your chapter will be promoted, teaching others about the mission and purpose of our Society.

Chapters have enhanced school libraries by providing currently published books, classrooms by providing virtual reality goggles, teachers by providing supplies, women and children shelters by providing necessities...

Does your chapter see a need in your school, your community, or your membership? ASTEF is here to provide the financial support you may need to implement and complete these projects. All you have to do is complete an application. If selected, your chapter will receive the monetary assistance to complete your project. But you must act now.

Project Stipend Applications are due April 1.

Step out on the Yellow Brick Road

The Cowardly Lion only wanted courage but finds he had it all the time. What he lacked was confidence.

"You have plenty of courage, I am sure," answered Oz. "All you need is confidence in yourself.”

Confidence is all you need when placing a winning bid on your favorite online auction item and confidence in knowing your Golden Ticket just might be drawn on February 28th.

Be sure to buy your Golden Ticket first thing tomorrow morning. By doing so, you will know that you are among the 100 special tickets sold to benefit the

2021-2022 project stipends,
support Aspiring Educators, and
fund scholarship and leadership opportunities.
When your name is called you just might select this Cowardly Lion inspired, brown-toned Jolie Leather Crossbody handbag by Fossil. It’s soft feel and casual look makes it the perfect everyday bag.

It can be worn crossbody or over the shoulder. You will love the exterior zipper closure, back side pocket with magnetic snap, and the interior open pocket and zipper closed pocket. The bag is a great size, too.
It measures 11-inch X 3-inch X 8- inches.

It would certainly give the Lion, and you, courage and confidence as you proudly carry this bag that combines casual and dressy for a versatile appeal along the Yellow Brick Road and everywhere you go.

(Value $178)
