Instructor Bio: Cat Rigdon is a painter and fiber artist based in Dallas, Texas. She grew up on the island of Cyprus, before the Iraq War, the island has a strong folk art and naturalism culture which is reflected in Rigdon’s work. Her obsessively repetitive works deal with the mythology of growing up in Cyprus and her curiosity for artifacts sparked by her past profession as a Cataloger for Heritage Auctions.

Listen to CU Cohort 1 alumna and Community Member Laura Lawson’s TED Talk this Saturday at 9am, in person at Austin College or via a live stream. Her topic is very dear to us at The Cedars Union!

“Time and Space: Arts’ Most Valuable Resources”
As an artist, Laura J. Lawson has learned that time and space are the two most valuable resources for creatives. She believes in the importance of allowing yourself to have unstructured time to think, to play, to seek inspiration, and to let thoughts come together—the “invisible” time that goes into making works of art. She also believes that a crowded space leads to a crowded mind, which is why artists’ spaces are vital. Her idea is based in her own studio art practice, but its application encompasses all forms of creativity and problem-solving.

The Cedars Union would like to thank the DFW community for their #ntxgday2021 support yesterday, not only for our organization for for the many nonprofits who received help. Nonprofits serve a crucial role in the health of a city, stepping in where traditional commercial models cannot. At The Cedars Union we know that reliable and accessible space and communities for art making are needed for the vitality of a city and we will continue to work towards our own sustainability so that we are around to offer it to others. We collected donations of all sizes yesterday and we value every little bit. Thank you friends.

Stay tuned for ice buckets, newborns dressed as owls, and mega fan tats.

We've saved the best for last: for our final NTGD dare, Cohort 2 artists Brantly Sheffield and Cat Rigdon will get CEDARS UNION TATOOS if we reach 4k in donations! Ink and memories that last forever, just like the place your donation will hold in our hearts.

::Serious tone:: In 2018 we opened our doors to an ambitious idea and have watched it allow art to flourish in the North Texas community. Like many of the nonprofits that benefit our city, we can't do it without increasing public support in a meaningful way. #northtexasgivingday2021
