Meet 20-year-old Sarah from Kuajok village in Gogrial West County, South Sudan.

Her husband works in a local church as a part time Pastor and as teacher. Sarah says she wants to increase her knowledge of business while she learns to repair wells.

“I like the opportunity because it will give me skills of repairing wells since there are very few people in our community with this knowledge, making our community suffer when the water pump spoils.”

With business experience managing her own shop, and a drive to learn more, it was reported that Sarah was one of the most intelligent and dedicated students among the participants during training!

“My name is Adeline Lusenge. I am 25 years old. The lack of water in our village of Hehu is a big problem that killed our future as girls and women. Since my childhood, I used dirty water to make my bath, and that is what is at the origin of several diseases and sometimes infertility for women. With this tank built by ALARM in partnership with WIB, we are starting to use clean water and diseases have reduced to 60%. We still hope to have other tanks to cure these diseases.”

Happy Earth Day! 🌍

Virunga National Park is Africa's most biologically diverse area protected by a dedicated team of over 600 rangers.

Water is Basic in partnership with ALARM are continuing in an effort to provide water to the people of Kibumba, DRC, bordering the park. The construction of rain catchment systems continues, providing accessible clean water, eliminating the need to travel into the park to seek water.

It is a threat to the wildlife, the villagers, and the rangers when people cross into the protected area.

On this #EarthDay we give thanks to the rangers and ALARM staff and the supporters of Water is Basic who have funded this effort protecting the people, their farms, the rangers, and the wildlife in the park.

Why should you join the Moyà Team, a community of monthly donors? Let the testimony of this brave 15-year-old girl in the village of Rutshuru in DRC tell you.

"My name is Solange, and I am 15 years old. For many years, my mother and I suffered from a lack of water and having to use stagnant water. Young girls my age are also victims of abuse when walking to find water. Our education stops and we do not have access to school when we do not have access to water. I trust that after having these tanks, our life will change in almost every aspect."

The final photo shows the previous tank they used to access water. What a difference your gifts make!

We are pleased to share that the Women's Well Repair teams are having great success in the field with this new initiative.

What we're finding over and over in the reports is that the community members are so relieved to have trained mechanics nearby so that when repairs, large or small, are needed in the future, they will not have to wait!

Give The Story of Clean Water, Give Clean Water to Children Around the World.

Help Publish The Book, I Dream Of Water To Help 1,000,000 Children Give 1,000,000 Children Clean Water!

You have likely seen the film Ru: Water Is Life. In 2010, we traveled to South Sudan weeks before its referendum for independence. We shot a documentary telling the story of a day in a child's life profoundly affected by her community's lack of access to clean water. We met and fell in love with Jina Keji, a brilliant twelve-year-old girl from Hai Village outside Yei, Sudan. Jina was the primary caretaker of five younger siblings and a sickly grandmother. Three times a day, Jina made a two-mile circuit to a tepid, green hole filled with gray water, the primary water source for 3,000 villagers. Her daily treks to the water hole dominated her young life.

RU: Water is Life, the final film, went on to critical acclaim, winning film festival awards across the United States. While that film has inspired hundreds of thousands to support bringing water to all people, it also inspired an artist and an author to write a book.

"I Dream of Water" is Jina's story, expressed through beautiful art. In many ways, this is the daily story of millions of girls living in desperate conditions worldwide. Designed for children, I Dream of Water will inspire hundreds of thousands of young people to innovate ways to support sustainable, local solutions to basic water problems and change the future for millions of children like Jina.

5,000 classrooms. 1,000,000 children helping 1,000,000 children. Let's do this!

This cause is light and an incredible way to help those in such VERY desperate need of clean water. We take that so for granted here in the USA. Just turn on the tap and there it is. Not so in Sudan.
We can learn a great deal from the people we serve in South Sudan. Over the years, they have shown what to do in a crisis. They celebrate small things, enjoy each other day-to-day, choose sacrifice as a first response, and ALWAYS think community over the individual. They are an excellent example for us all. So as you contemplate how you will manage the next few weeks or months, will you please allow our friends in South Sudan to affect your plans? Celebrate the small things (read a book, write a note of encouragement); many will suffer financially (who can you serve, deliver groceries to), and as a community, a nation, a family, let's do all we can for the greater good. By the way, my wife and I are in self-quarantine, having just arrived back from London, where we helped our OASIS BOX partners, Bond -E-Shams raise $30,000 for more water. We celebrated the founder's 28th birthday. The founder Hamza is another example of why education is so important. Everybody at Bond-E-Sham is in their 20's. No one receives a paycheck! Mary and Mary are two young teenage ladies slipping and sliding, pulling and climbing their way to a future. They want to go to school and change the future of their nation. Mary Yabbu is 15 and spends her weekends frying up cassava to sell in town. It's how her mother can pay her school fees. Mary Sunday lives with her grandmother, where she spends her weekends working in the fields. Both girls' days start with a 2-mile round trip walk for water when it's available. The future of South Sudan, the future of Africa, the future of our world is in the ideas forming in young minds. When we give out of our abundance, they get the basics. It's a simple formula with powerful results. Please continue to give to our work (we never stop) and find someone in your community who needs some help or give to your local meals on wheels, today. Stephen R Roese President PS. Hamza's idea for the solar box came from his own battle with water born disease as a child. As Lou Holtz said, "Show me someone who has done something worthwhile, and I'll show you someone who has overcome adversity." Check out his story: https://www.ted.com/talks/hamza_farrukh_solving_the_global_water_crisis_in_7_minutes
