Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Hensley. Hi Jeff, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself. I’ve traveled a winding road since my early days, going to school at UT Austin and tending bar on the side. At the time, I didn’t really know what I [.....

Congratulations to treasured Equest Volunteer, Christina Baroody, for being selected as a 2021 Each Moment Matters honoree and the Don W. Hodges "Joy of Service" Award Winner! Honorees are chosen based on their impact on the lives of others and their ability to make a difference in the world around them, and Christina is a fantastic example of this. Christina can often be found helping the barn crew ensure the Equest Therapy Herd is well taken care of, and has also been a steadfast volunteer for classes and events. THANK YOU, Christina, for all you do for Equest, and CONGRATULATIONS!!

Volunteer Feature - Pia Ackerman

We are looking forward to North Texas Giving Day THIS Thursday!
As this monumental day is quickly approaching, please keep Equest in your hearts and minds. Your gift helps us sustain our life-changing programs and continue to enhance the quality of life for those with diverse needs using equine assisted activities & therapies.

Our volunteers are a pillar of Equest, and our programs would not be possible without them. One of our treasured volunteers is Pia Ackerman.

Pia has been a part of the Equest family since 2014, when she learned about Equest through a colleague. Over the years, Pia obtained a position at Equest as Board Treasurer and continues to serve on the Board of Directors.

For 6 years now, Pia has played an integral role among Equest's amazing crew of hardworking volunteers. Pia has made an effort to volunteer with nearly every program Equest offers and is especially fond of the carriage-driving classes. Some of the most special moments she has had at Equest are when a client has a breakthrough during their lesson, specifically when a client is learning the posting trot, and it all "clicks" for them mentally and physically.

Pia has been a phenomenal representation of the Equest Board of Directors, volunteers, and not to mention that she is Taco and Cisco's sponsor.

Thank you, Pia, for all you do!!

August is “National Make a Will” month, and while August in almost over, it’s never too late to create or update our wills! Losing a loved one is hard, but it’s harder when there is no will, or an outdated will that ends up in probate court. So just a reminder – create or review your will, contact your lawyer, do this now for those you love. And, if you would like to include Equest in your estate plans, we can provide information.

If you have a family member with special needs, our friends at “Special Cares”, a division of Mass Mutual, are experts at helping navigate the landscape of planning for this! Special Cares has supported Equest families, and they are experts at planning for the future of your loved ones with special needs.

Our Story

Equest's mission is to enhance the quality of life for children and adults with diverse needs by partnering with horses to bring hope and healing through equine assisted activities and therapies. Equest is a 501 (c) (3) public charity, IRS Tax ID 75-1823701.

Founded in 1981, Equest Therapeutic Horsemanship was the first therapeutic riding center in Texas. Our program quickly became an industry leader, building a solid base in the North Texas community serving thousands of clients with our unique therapy partners - our horses!

Equest provides equine facilitated activities, therapies, and counseling to children and adults with physical, cognitive, sensory, coping, social, and learning disabilities and veterans with adjustment challenges. The services provided include physical and occupational therapy, equine facilitated counseling, therapeutic carriage driving, therapeutic horsemanship, and competition.

Equest was the first PATH International Premier Accredited Center in Texas, and remains one of the largest in the country. Equest offers an engaging volunteer program that provides 40,000 hours of direct program service opportunities each year. Equest was named “2015 Non-Profit of the Year” by CNM Connect.
