Thanks to efforts by the Jewish War Veterans, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for FY2002 (P.L. 107-107, §552) called for a review of Jewish American and Hispanic American veteran war records from WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War to ensure those deserving the Medal of Honor were not denied because of prejudice. During the review, records of several soldiers of neither Jewish nor Hispanic descent were also found to display criteria worthy of the Medal of Honor. The 2002 act was amended to allow these soldiers to be honored with the upgrade. As a result of the review, 24 recipients were honored in 2014. #JWV125

In 1991, JWV arranged and paid for a special printing of 1,000 pocket-sized Jewish bibles to send to Jewish GIs in Saudi Arabia. The military version of the Jewish bible hadn’t been printed since the 1960s and ran out during the 1970s. This is a picture of the prayer books we currently to any active-duty member of the military who requests one – contact us at [email protected]. #JWV125

In 1956, General Omar Bradley accepted the honorary Chairmanship of JWV's campaign to raise $350,000 for a National Shrine for the Jewish War Dead. He said the Shrine would be a "fitting monument to the men of Jewish faith who died serving their country. The military achievement of men of Jewish faith are part of the proud record of American fighting men. I urge all Americans to join with me in making this National Shrine a living reality." #JWV125
