What is "Rally Day" and why do we have it?

(borrowed/adapted from Pastor David, a Lutheran pastor in Minnesota:)

Webster’s Dictionary defines "rally" as:

1) a verb "to draw or call together for a common purpose"

2) a noun meaning "a renewal of energy in joint action"

During the summer [& especially during pandemics!], our many activities and vacations and events continually draw congregation members away from each other - especially on weekends. And pandemic precautions keep some of us physically apart. Summer can also be a spiritually draining time. You start the summer with the good intentions of sticking to your Bible-reading schedules. Good intentions of worshiping regularly. Good intentions of attending Bible class. But the reality is that summer’s hectic schedules can easily derail us from those good intentions. Come the end of summer, we need "a renewal of energy" when it comes to spiritual matters. Through this draining, extended pandemic, we need a "renewal of energy"!

It’s hard to renew your energy on your own. But it’s much easier in a group. That’s why we set aside one special day at the end of the summer to "rally" - to "draw together for a common purpose" seeking the Holy Spirit’s power to "renew our energy" for worship, for digging into God’s Word, for praying, for serving, and for witnessing.

Join us in person or on-line Sunday, September 12 as we come together to renew our energy. Sign up to help as ushers, lectors, altar guild, provide flowers for worship, etc. See what activities or groups you might want to participate with. Sunday morning classes will start Sept 19 at 9:00am - come join us!

Reminder: This Saturday, 9/11, we'll meet at the church at noon to gather the donated food items to take over to Mt Olive. We've collected canned chicken and ham and canned green beans, corn and peas in additional to single serve items for "blessing bags" including fruit cups, cookies, chips, Vienna sausages, and small/travel size hand sanitizer bottles. Any who would like to join the event Saturday are welcome, masks will be worn and social distancing encouraged.

Katherine Koble is working on her Girl Scout Gold award project and has chosen our Community Garden for her project. She spent most of the day on Labor Day out in the heat working on the first phase of the pollinator garden. Thank you, Katherine, for your great project! We'll look forward to seeing, and enjoying, the finished product for years to come!

So honored to share the heroic acts of Brad Graham, son of David and Ann Graham, who grew up and was confirmed here at Central. He was recently recognized for his quick actions that helped save a 3 year old who had been accidentally shot. God truly placed you and your colleagues in the right place at the right time

From Brad's account of the day:
7-11-2021 - A day that I'll never forget. We received a call for a 3 year old girl that had been accidently shot in the arm and face by a shotgun. We arrived on scene minutes after the call came out and performed life saving measures by applying a tourniquet and pinching the artery before EMS was able to arrive. Once EMS arrived my partner and I carried her to the ambulance and I had to keep the arm in place so it wouldn't detach from the body. EMS was able to leave the scene within minutes of arrival to transport her to a medical helo evac. There is nothing in this world that will ever prepare you emotionally for seeing a 3yo in that state and having their life in your hands. God was looking out that day and the little girl was able to survive the injuries and will have a long happy life ahead of her.

Pastor Robert is under the weather this week. He has Covid-type symptoms and won't have results of testing until after Sunday so he will remain home as a precaution. We pray for his quick healing and that he will feel better soon!
Our services this week will follow a Lutheran Morning Prayer format with a mixture of readings and hymn singing, and Pastor Robert has sent his words to share during the service, too.
Please join us for worship at 10:30 Sunday morning! ALL are welcome!

At the church recording hymns today, I took some pics of some of the calming beauty. I thought some of you who haven't seen the church in awhile might enjoy them.
Hmmm, saw this and thought, "should/could we add a pocket or two to some of the shawls and lap blankets we're making?" This Saturday is the first Saturday in August! Join us for our Zoom gathering for Hooked on Love - our knitting and crochet ministry. 1:00 pm.
Had to share another beautiful song from David's cousin. "Beautiful Things" God makes beautiful things from dust... including you! Enjoy this beautiful day!
Good morning y'all and Happy Mothers Day! Looking forward to seeing you at Church this morning!
Where is the bulletin for today? I always find it after the service is over; I like to print and use it to follow.
Looking forward to this morning's online worship. Join us at Central Lutheran Church's Facebook site.
Behind the church, by the chapel window, beauty that few have seen this year!
Central Lutheran Church, Easter 2020 (I was at the church this morning to turn on the chimes for the neighborhood and saw the sky and brightness for one of the moments it was crystal clear. I had to take pictures of the sky and the trees. Happy Easter, everyone. Harold)
What a meaningful and deeply worshipful service. Thank you
