ZOOM failed to make the connection to stream our Rally for Voting Rights on Facebook. When I realized that it just wasn't going to work, I started recording the meeting. Some of the excellent information should be available as soon as I can process the recording. --genelantz

Would you make a video tribute to Tony Padilla? He donated years to the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans. Our pay scale is pretty simple: it's zero. Tony gave and gave. He only stepped down because he had to put his health first. If you have Windows 10, just search for your camera, set it on "video" then push the record button. When you finish, push the same button again. Your video will be under "pictures/camera roll." --genelantz

TARA Field Organizer Judy Bryant and Secretary Gene Lantz were joined by Dallas President Kenneth Williams, Golden Triangle President Rev. Harmon Dent and super activists Patricia Murphy, Bob Fusinato and Jan McDowell as they protested with locked out Exxon Mobil steelworkers from Beaumont. The action in Irving was outside the Exxon Mobil headquarters during their virtual annual shareholders meeting. The company locked 650 workers out of the refinery a month ago and is trying to force them to accept a bad contract where they lose money, safety and seniority. Rev. Dent accepted donations to his local from Judy and Patricia which will help the workers and their families.

The Dallas TARA Chapter held its first in person meeting since March 2020 at Kidd Springs Park on a beautiful day. Members celebrated Older Americans month and Cinco de Mayo with delicious Mexican food from locally owned Desperados. After much fun visiting by all, Field Organizer Judy Bryant shared information about this years OAM theme, “Communities of Strength”. Members enjoyed cake decorated with that theme. She had copies of the ARA Texas Congressional Report and encouraged members to use it with the Lobby Day Talking points info and contact their Congresspersons. They received the Action Calendar for each week in May.
President Kenneth Williams reminded members about Voter
Suppression bills HB6 and SB7 which are being considered in the Texas House on Thursday and asked them to please urge their State Reps to vote no on them. He also discussed having future meetings outside in a park until we can return inside. Members agreed with this idea. TARA Secretary Gene Lantz, along with Linda Coleman andJames Kille, led the group in several songs, including the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans anthem and Solidarity Forever to close the meeting.
