There is More to Being a Traveling Man than Pins and Mileage by WB Robert E. Jackson For many months I’ve had a paper idea in my ‘todo’ list on the importance of travel. When I saw the topic show up in another blog, I scrapped the idea and yielded to the Brother. However, recent experiences ha...

My Brothers,

“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas” - Calvin Coolidge

If Thanksgiving is about ‘Giving Thanks’ and reminding us to be grateful, then Christmas is the time for goodwill, charity, helping others and sharing.

There is much history that has brought what we do during Christmas time in today’s modern world from the earliest beginnings of Christianity (and before); everything from St. Nicholas, Christmas trees, mistletoe, and to caroling in the streets.

The stockings hung by the chimney with care, the reindeer, even the gift giving ... all evolved over time.

History being what is it, that evolution is in the past. It cannot be changed or altered. The commercialism of this season, the shopping, the “Business of Christmas” is also threaded into society and, by default, into our lives.

You can say it is too much or overboard and maybe it is. But the lights, the music, the magic..... makes this a very special time.

We give gifts, we shop and spend, we share how and where and when we can. We can partake (or not) in different aspects of the season, depending on our religious beliefs, our upbringing, our financial situation.

Off to grandma’s house, a candlelit church, visiting with friends, or wherever the day takes you, it is our actions that makes the difference to those around us (regardless of the scale). It is how we (I think) take Christmas into the future.

A kind word, a smile, a hug. Helping those that are in need and are deserving of our aid or assistance. Remembering that we are likely better off than others in the world and that we have the option, the choice, to reach out. There are plenty of things we can do as far as our ability permits – and it doesn’t have to be much more than kindness.

Find your thing.

I want to wish you, your family and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas. Enjoy what time you can with those you care for and appreciate the blessings that are in your lives.

And don’t forget –
be safe out there in the world.

This post below was copied from Ramom’s friends and loved ones.

Bro. Melo was called to the Great Architect of the Universe. It was too sudden and much too soon.

We will be following the lead of his friends and respecting the wishes of his family.

A brain tumor took him quickly and in his death he will be giving life to many as an organ donor.

Peace to him and prayers to his family....

—————————————

To all of Ramom’s family, friends and loved ones,

As you can imagine it has been a very hard couple of days. Many of you have reached out to offer help and support. While greatly appreciated, please understand that at this time we have a lot on our plate. Our primary focus is to be with Ramom until the moment he is taken to the OR and transplant procurement begins. Our second focus is to get Ramom back home to his family in Brazil as quickly as possible. As you can imagine the process of getting him home is complicated and will take some time. We are in the process of setting up a GoFundMe page and we will let you know as soon as it is live. In addition, we will keep you informed on how you can help and support our beloved Ramom and his family in the weeks to come.

Upon Ramom's arrival back home, his family and friends will gather to celebrate his life. After Ramom’s family has the opportunity to lay him to rest in his hometown of Barra Mansa, there will be a memorial service locally here in Dallas. Details we be shared as soon as possible.

Thank for your continued support and love

General information

Six 33rd degree Scottish Rite Masons, prominent citizens of the Town of Highland Park, organized Highland Park Lodge No. 1150 with 146 charter members. The lodge, chartered by The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Texas on December 8, 1921, helped make history when it and five other lodges were set to work and new officers installed on December 30, 1921. Others were Hutchins Lodge No. 1154, Landmark Lodge No. 1168, R. C. Buckner No. 1176, Gibraltar Lodge No. 1179, and Metropolitan Lodge No. 1182. On December 7, 1971, the six lodges held a joint Golden Anniversary meeting at the Scottish Rite Temple, where Highland Park Lodge first met in the Green Room. Early on, when the lodge attempted to meet closer to Highland Park, it faced an immediate dilemma: Here was a new lodge with no money, with a three-year lease on a condemned lodge hall, one that was not masonically sound and with a floor that was to weak to hold up a crowd. Finally on July 1, 1923, the lodge leased the second floor over the Highland Park Pharmacy, at Knox and Travis. This lodge room was designed and built for the lodge by one of its members. It wasn't long before Highland Park Lodge was known as "The Silk Stocking Lodge." Many members are listed among the Who's Who of Dallas. The lodge met at Knox and Travis until August 1975, when the lodge finally owned and occupied its own building at 6137 Sherry Lane in Preston Center. That property, purchased in 1971, was sold about 1990. With part of the money the lodge endowed all of its members. An interesting history sidelight: A lodge brother presented the lodge with a beautiful lot within the Town of Highland Park. Upon investigation, it was found that the Highland Park town code would not permit a Masonic lodge to build on the site. The lodge returned the property to the donor. Later, the Highland Park Town Hall was built on that lot. The lodge prospered, and, in 1957, membership peaked at 890 members. Today two distinguished members of Highland Park Lodge have their names on Dallas area lodges: Thomas B. Hunter in Grand Prairie, and Roy Stanley. Highland Park Lodge supplied substantial numbers of members to the formation of Hillcrest Lodge, John L. DeGrazier Lodge, Thomas B. Hunter Lodge and Roy Stanley Lodge. Greetings from Columbian Lodge A.F.&A.M. in Boston, Brethren! Past Master Dan Maydore visited our lodge several years ago and certainly enjoyed seeing that you are all still doing well!
REMEMBER YOUR OBLIGATION Last night I knelt where Hiram knelt and took an obligation today I'm closer to my God and I'm a Master Mason Tho' heretofore my fellow men seemed each one like the other today I search each one apart I'm looking for my brother And as I feel his friendly grip it fills my heart with pride I know that while I'm on the square that he is by my side His footsteps on my errand go if I should such require: His prayers will lead in my behalf if I should so desire My words are safe within his breast as though within my own his hand forever at my back to help me safely home Good counsel whispers in my ear and warns of any danger By square and compass, Brother now! Who once would call me stranger I might have lived a moral life and risen to distinction Without my Brothers helping hand and fellowship of Masons But God, who knows how hard it is to resist life's temptations knows why I knelt where Hiram knelt and took that obligation .
FYI: A friend has 2 side-by-side spaces at Restland Dallas in the old Masonic section, real close to the big emblem.. They were purchased in 1938 and he wants to sell them. Restland's prices are nuts; his, not so much. Info given to serious inquiries. Thanks in advance
Had a great time visiting Highland Park stated meeting. Brother Fred Sloan conducted a great meeting from the east. And not to forget a good meal provided by brother Alan Badger Highland Park. Our four-legged friend is the only one that didn't get to eat, although she kept all the secrets of the Highland Park Mason's LOL. I encourage all Masons to attend, your best friend just might be there.
