Let's be clear: The fight for the Supreme Court is a fight for the future of our health care. And we deserve to have our voices heard in this process.

Today, we brought the stories of real people to Capitol Hill so we could tell our senators: protect our health care. Stop Barrett.

NELA & The Institute Mourn The Passing Of Justice Ginsburg

September 18, 2020

NELA and The Employee Rights Advocacy Institute For Law & Policy are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

In her career as a litigator, Justice Ginsburg was a staunch advocate for gender equality, having broken numerous barriers throughout her career. As the second woman to serve on the High Court, she was a voice for many of the most vulnerable people in our society, and will continue to influence jurists far into the future. As Justice Elena Kagan observed, “She has changed the face of American anti-discrimination law.”

We mourn the loss of an icon and wish her family peace as they say goodbye to their loved one. Rest in peace, Justice Ginsberg. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with our nation and inspiring our continued commitment to justice.

For those of you in the DC area, please plan to attend a vigil tomorrow night in front of the Supreme Court building. More info to come.

Senators: You can't let COVID-19 leave women and people of color behind

Op-ed from National Partnership for Women & Families, the National Women’s Law Center, and NELP: “This pandemic threatens to turn back the clock on the progress women have made in the workforce over the last few decades.“ Women and people of color need to be a priority, not a legislative afterthought. http://bit.ly/39VJPgH #PaidLeaveforAll

We cannot allow the mishandling of the pandemic by the Trump administration to undermine women’s role in our workforce and economy.

U.S. Supreme Courts Sides With LGBTQ+ Workers

We are thrilled with today's Supreme Court decision. All workers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect in the workplace.

“NELA celebrates this victory in solidarity with our LGBTQ staff, members, coalition partners, and workers across the country. We will continue empowering NELA members as they advocate on behalf of LGBTQ workers,” said Karen Maoki, Interim Executive Director. “We also honor the perseverance and sacrifice of the workers in each of these cases – Gerald Bostock, Aimee Stephens, and Donald Zarda. Although Ms. Stephens and Mr. Zarda passed away before this decision came down, their courage and the tireless of efforts of their advocates have changed the American workplace for the better.”

The Supreme Court ruled today that an employer who discriminates against an individual on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a landmark decision for LGBTQ workers.

NELA.org - NELA & The Institute Joint Statement On The Long Road To Racial Justice In This Country

NELA and The Institute were founded to strengthen the legal system to better protect workers, to uphold and advance workers' rights in the face of injustice, and to equip advocates for the fight. Racial justice is a central tenet of our work, and we condemn actions that dehumanize and devalue Black people. No one should have to fear for their lives simply because they are living their lives. We call on elected officials, business leaders, the judiciary--all those with influence--to work with us to eradicate the biased practices and laws that have led to inequity in our neighborhoods and workplaces.

NELA and The Institute express our profound outrage and sadness regarding the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many others in this country who have lost their lives because of the color of their skin.
