STICKY FAITH: Practical Ideas to Help Young People Form Lifelong Faith

While almost 1 out of 2 young people walk away from God and the church after high school, it doesn't have to be that way. In your church and home, you can build practices that help teenagers develop faith that sticks into adulthood. We’ll take a practical look at research conducted by the Fuller Youth Institute over the past decade. Together we’ll unearth toxic myths young people believe about faith, and explore how to reverse the myths and form lifelong faith.

Helping Families Navigate Kids’ Digital Worlds
Most parents today are desperate for direction when it comes to their kids’ online worlds. Come explore ways we can practically apply grounded and faithful principles to the daily realities of Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, and whatever platforms young people face next.

Leaders: Steve Argue, Fuller Youth Institute and Matt Aalseth, PSWC Director of Youth Ministry

GEORGE, TRAYVON, AND THE CHURCH
by Efrem Smith, PSWC Superintendent

"And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us." 2 Corinthians 5:19-20

This morning as I prepared to go for a run, I thought of getting my hooded sweatshirt from the closet because there was somewhat of a chill in the air. As I thought about this further my heart once again became heavy. I wondered if by some, I'm still seen as a mysterious Black Stranger in my own community. As I went on my run without the sweatshirt, I wondered how I was being perceived. Could they see the Christian, highly educated, professional, married, and father that I am? You see, I have had many experiences of being racially profiled during my lifetime.

To my non-African American Brothers and Sisters, please don't see me as bitter, angry, or overly emotional (though these feelings should bring me more grace and love instead of isolation). You see these thoughts are not all of who I am. I am still passionate and committed to the advancement of the Kingdom of God. I still sense a tremendous call to reconciliation as well as Kingdom compassion, mercy, and justice. The tensions, mostly across racial lines over the George Zimmerman verdict are a reminder of the sin-filled and upside down world that we live in. It is an opportunity to forge what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called, The Beloved Community. This is the experience of the Kingdom of God on earth, right now. We must still believe that as Jesus proclaimed, "The Kingdom of God is near." This is where my hope and action is still rooted.

General information

In 1902 six Covenant churches in California came together believing they could do more together than each could alone. They were the beginning of the Pacific Southwest Conference. Today the PSWC is a mission region of the Evangelical Covenant Church with over 160 churches throughout Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah. How we do ministry has changed a lot over the years, but God's mission is still our focus.

Hello, Modesto Covenant Church is beginning our hiring process for a Student Ministry Associate. This is a two year, supervised, full time, hourly position with paid time off, health, and educational benefits. Our ideal candidate would be a recent Bible College graduate with a heart for discipling students. The main roles of the Student Ministry Associate are to coordinate the Junior High ministry of Modesto Covenant Church, as well as attending our Young Adults group, and High School special events when possible. If you know any qualified individuals that you feel would be a good fit for this position, please direct them to send a resume and cover letter to our Student Ministry Pastor, Caleb at [email protected]. Thank you, Caleb Byron
Welcome to camp!
Hey Everyone, This has been a crazy season. One bright star is our Conference decided to scholarship any pastor who wanted to get away for 2 nights and 3 days to Mission Springs or Alpine. We have seen well over 100 pastors and families come to our “Refresh in the Redwoods”. This last weekend we had 12 pastors come. One of them had never been to Mission Springs. God moved powerfully in his life. God is so good. Love our pastors. Praying for all of you. May God be your strength and wisdom during this time. Check out this quick video! Blessings, Chuck Wysong Executive Director
Love Mercy Do Justice (LMDJ) is currently accepting ministry development grant applications through April 30. Now is the perfect time to submit yours! We encourage and support Covenant congregations in living out the values of compassion, mercy and justice within their local communities. Through the legacy giving of benevolent donors, LMDJ is able to offer ministry development grants in support of viable, sustainable projects that seek individual and community transformation through or alongside the local church. Such initiatives should be consistent with the Matthew-Micah framework for holistic ministry. This framework prioritizes the emphases of Jesus in Matthew 25:35-36 as a missional cause and adds to it the intentionality of action called for in Micah 6:8. You can receive a grant package by contacting LMDJ at [email protected].
