When Jace’s foster parents sent him to camp at the Alabama 4-H Center for the first time, the experiences and confidence she hoped he’d gain became reality:

“We chose to send Jace to 4-H camp because I remember the experiences and sense of independence I gained from 4-H. I wanted him to have his own 4-H journey because it shows him a different side of life and would give him the courage to take chances and trust himself."

This has really been an inspiration for my sister's granddaughter. Brylee Viars is showing goats and cows at 11 years old. She makes it look so easy. I know she works hard and is doing great. She is from Gulfport, MS. Brylee has learned so much through these experiences. She did good in Hattiesburg last weekend and is moving on to Dixie Nationals. Way to go Brylee!!!! Nice looking cows and goat. Keep up the good work I know it isn't easy.

I just tried to send this through your contact form, but it will not submit. I just learned that your rules for showing rabbits at the fair state that they are disqualified if they are spayed or neutered. I remembered from when I showed my cat, that being fixed was a requirement. He was a barn cat and would not have been fixed otherwise. This double standard between pet types is extremely hypocritical. Yes, pet types, this child is showing her house rabbits. Here is our rabbit expert's explanation of the health risks caused by not spaying or neutering rabbits: "Why have you not spayed your female and your other male? There are not only reproductive reasons here but health reasons. Most intact females begin to develop uterine cancers by 3 years of age. Often during spays of adult females tumors are discovered. And have an intact male and female is pretty risky. All it takes is one encounter. Males also can develop cancers related to hormones. Females also can experience false pregnancies repeatedly which is stressful. Getting rid of hormones makes a huge difference for all animals. There are no cons only pros for fixing them." I understand that unaltered is the preferred state for livestock rabbits, and am not condemning that practice. My recommendation is to leave the rules for cats and dogs unchanged, but remove any for or against restriction for rabbits. If the rabbits are being sold at the fair, their spayed/neutered/intact status should be displayed. Please allow rabbit owners to do what is best for their situation, and their pets' health. Sincerely, Former Beaver Valley Beaver, Current Bunny Mother
