2 Timothy 2:21 (ESV) “21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.”⁣
 ⁣
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY⁣
 ⁣
One of the most annoying and damaging things is a person who does not take personal responsibility.⁣
 ⁣
Take a child who doesn’t clean up after themselves. They constantly go around the house and make a mess but then cry when it’s time to clean-up.⁣
 ⁣
Out of that one action of not taking responsibility you have a child that gets in trouble but also a parent that has to use valuable time correcting the child or if its late at night cleaning it up themselves.⁣
 ⁣
Now this example is on a small scale but what if you apply this to every part of life?⁣
 ⁣
When people avoid the areas in their life they are to be responsible for what breaks down? What valuable thing is wasted or brought to a ruin as a result?⁣
 ⁣
Think about absent fathers and the affect they have on children, or husbands a wives who don’t cultivate loving relationships and the marriages breakdown.⁣
 ⁣
What about the overweight person with health issues who refuses to watch and manage what they eat, or the adult that continues to blame their parents for all of their mishaps?⁣
 ⁣
God has provided us salvation that work is done, but personal responsibility we still have a part to play in that.⁣
 ⁣
When it comes to sin and iniquity we have a responsibility that once it is identified we begin working on it. But the great thing is that we don’t work on it alone.⁣
 ⁣
We have an accountability partner in the Holy Spirit who will help us and keeps on track. He will give us the encouragement to keep going and the power to take accountability for our actions and change them.⁣

for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
1 Timothy 6:7‭-‬8 ESV

POSSESS MATERIAL DON’T LET IS POSSESS YOU

Everyone likes nice things.

Whenever we get a little extra money or we see something that we really like we are all more inclined to make that purchase. (sometimes on impulse)

If you want an example of what I’m speaking about think about you’re the biggest shoe fanatic you can.

Anytime a pair of Jordan’s drop they are going out of their way to get it. They will stand in a line outside for hours and they will login to about 15 different devices to try to order it online.

They will literally drive themselves stir crazy to try and get that shoe, it’s all they can think about.

If they don’t get it they may even be willing to pay a couple hundred above price just to snag it because they “have” to have it.

Now, I like some J’s as much as the next man but at what point has the like of a shoe turned into an obsession where we no longer possess the shoes but they possess us?

In our text the bible reminds us that nothing that is in this world is coming with us into the next.

No matter how much things we amass money, close, shoes, electronics, houses, and etc. all of it stays here.

How can we apply this truth to our lives?

Be content with whatever we have and whatever we gain.

Don’t let what you don’t have drive you mad or create envy and jealousy within you.

for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.

I Timothy 4:13 (ESV) 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.

IMMERSE IN THE MISSION

When a soldier receives orders the one of the first things they do is look at what the goal of the mission is.

What is it that we are trying to accomplish and what is my part to play in that mission?

These are important questions because once you know what it is you are trying to accomplish you must completely give yourself to the task at hand.

At that point there should be nothing more important than the mission. This is the same way we must think as believers once we receive our assignment/task from the Lord.

This is what Paul is encouraging Timothy to do in our devotional text this morning.

Timothy was to be a Pastor, teacher, and example to the believers that were under him. This was going to require a certain amount of dedication above that of the average believer.

This was something he was going to have to put his heart in give his all to and create a routine for it.

Think about your life, think about the mission that you have been assigned right now at this moment. Have you devoted yourself to it? Or is it low on your lists of priorities?

We cannot slack on this because there is something that God is trying to accomplish and we have a part to play.

Let us look at the mission then examine ourselves to see if our actions are showing if we are devoted or half-stepping.

1Th 4:3 ESV  For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;⁣

SURVIVING A PERVERTED CULTURE⁣

The daily life for the believer, especially in the U.S., is constantly being on guard of your eyes, mind, and body. ⁣

We live in a highly over sexualized society where everything begins and ends with physical pleasure. ⁣

It is everywhere even when you are not looking for it TV, pictures, sounds, and suggestions about it are all around and it can be very tempting even for the most mature saints. ⁣

So what are we to do?⁣

God has called His people to not only live differently, but also to think differently about things from the world's perspective. ⁣

The first thing we must do is understand that it is the will of God that we would avoid sexual sins, things that are opened outside of His guidelines of covental marriage. ⁣

Now to the world this feels old and antique but God has given this instruction for a reason. When things happen outside of His guidelines there will always be someone who suffers as a result. ⁣

We must also see and understand that sin has preverted something that God has created. They have stripped it of it's beauty to make it cheap and vulgar. ⁣

Then finally we must know that we are a temple of God and our bodies are holy. We should not just subject them to anything or anyone. We should care for our temple and not sin against ourselves. ⁣

God wants us not only to be santified in our spirit and mind, but what happens inwardly should also take place outwardly leading to santification also happening in the body. ⁣

1 Thessalonians 2:3-4 (ESV) 3 For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity or any attempt to deceive, 4 but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.⁣
 ⁣
WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO PLEASE?⁣
 ⁣
Code-Switching.⁣
 ⁣
This is a term that is used to describe how other cultures and ethnicities change the way they talk or act when they come around another group of people.⁣
 ⁣
They change the words they use and how they say them, things they would normally laugh at are no longer funny, and they also use words they would never use in normal conversation.⁣
 ⁣
This is something people do in order to preserve some type of opportunity for themselves or not to be looked at differently from a more dominate group.⁣
 ⁣
This is something that believers should not be doing.⁣
 ⁣
In a society that is becoming more hostile and critical of different viewpoints, especially against religion, many people have started to code-switch from the faith.⁣
 ⁣
Whether they don’t want to offend people who think differently or be ostracized speaking the bold truth is happening less and less.⁣
 ⁣
As believers we are all required to make a choice: Please God or Please Man.⁣
 ⁣
There is no in between God calls for our complete devotion and commitment. He has given us salvation and the great gift of His Gospel and it is not to be shied away from.⁣
 ⁣
When it comes to speaking the truth about God I pray that none of us code-switch and instead seek to please God with our words and actions.⁣

Thessalonians 1:7-8 (ESV) 7 so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. 8 For not only has the word of the Lord sounded forth from you in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has gone forth everywhere, so that we need not say anything.⁣

FAITH TRAVELS⁣
 ⁣
One thing news is going to do is travel and travel fast, very fast.⁣
 ⁣
Doesn’t it seem like sometimes you can see something happen and then within five minutes everybody has heard about it? Especially in the social media age.⁣
 ⁣
Something can happen on the West Coast which is a five hour flight away but we can know about it in real time.⁣
 ⁣
Just thinking of that should make us all take our lives more seriously. Have you ever thought I wonder what people are saying about me?⁣
 ⁣
Now, I’m not saying that in the sense of where you are insecure about yourself and act based on what people think of you but more along the lines of I wonder what people think of when they hear my name.⁣
 ⁣
What is the worth of your name? Is faith something that is attached to it? When people think of you do they think of the believer or is there some other persona that is attached to your name?⁣
 ⁣
In our devotional text Paul was encouraging the saints do to the fact that their faith had begun to travel throughout the region. The way they lived out their faith had an impact.⁣
 ⁣
They became an example to people close and far away which demonstrates to us how our lives can impact others.⁣
 ⁣
There are people who have heard things about you but never seen you, I wonder what they are hearing?⁣
 ⁣
Prayerfully whatever it is that they are hearing it is something that is glorifying God.⁣

Complete victory is possible, without losing a thing! Do you believe it?
Good Morning Everyone! Pray everyone got some rest and are back on track. You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life. John 5:39‭-‬40 ESV WILLINGNESS TO COME Have you ever needed something and known where to go to get it but didn't want to? When I was growning up in my house if we wanted to go out we had to ask my dad but we'd try to ask my mom to avoid it but still would have to ask him anyway lol This is the conversation Jesus is having with a religious group they thought they had it all together. Religiously you could not touch them, they were above reproach on the outside but Jesus marked them, "You have no life in you". This is a strong statement but He was trying to get their attention. The reason they had no life is because there were going to the wrong source. Then when the right source appeared they were unwilling to submit to it. Life is available to us on the basis of our willingness to submit to Him (Jesus). God keeps nothing from us but it can be our refusal of him that stops Life from flowing into us. Prayer: Lord, I pray that I look to no other source to fill satisfied but you. You are Life! Other things cannot fill me the way you can. Let your Spirit fill my hear with a willingness and the humility to come to you always. In Jesus name, AMEN. 🙏🏾
