Helping Children Worldwide Transforming communities by serving vulnerable children and families through education, health care and spiritual mentoring.
Helping Children Worldwide (HCW) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that builds trusting relationships with mission sustaining partners and collaborates with international program partners to transform communities and tackle the greatest barriers to sustainable futures; poverty, disease, illiteracy and hopelessness. We partner with local leadership to strengthen communities in Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in the world, by supporting programs that provide vulnerable children and their families with opportunities for education, health care, and spiritual mentoring. Two of the programs HCW underwrites, the Child Rescue Centre (CRC) and Mercy Hospital are especially focused on education, family stability, maternal health, infant survival, and childhood nutrition. HCW provides financial underwriting, training, technical advice, long term and short term mission team support to Mercy Hospital and the CRC to provide life-changing care for thousands of children and their families.

Mercy Hospital is pleased to welcome Dr. Aruna Stevens as the newest doctor on staff. Aruna graduated from the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences of the University of Sierra Leone. He is an alumnus of the CRC who was rescued from the streets of Bo as a child and grew up in the residential centre. "Today is a start of a childhood dream that I had to be a doctor to serve people, but specifically my people of Bo and its environs. I'm very humbled for this opportunity and grateful to HCW, the CRC, UMC-SLAC, and Mercy Hospital," Aruna says. #SierraLeone

When three little girls lost their father to disease, and their mother died in childbirth, they were in danger of becoming victims of extreme poverty, like so many children in Sierra Leone. The Child Reintegration Centre stepped in, and today Aminata, Memunatu and Hawa are thriving and happy in a new home with their beloved aunt. Helping Children Worldwide and other global child welfare organizations have joined together to sign "The Global Church Pledge to See Children Thriving in Safe and Loving Families."

The Pledge: "We believe God designed families as the best environment for children and young people to receive the love, belonging, and protection they need in order to flourish. Therefore, on behalf of vulnerable children around the world, we commit to support efforts which strengthen families, invest in family-based solutions, and combat the root causes of their vulnerability."

The need is so great. There are so many children in need of education & good nutrition. So many families in need of that extra "leg up" to help them succeed. But every precious life that is saved or positively impacted makes a huge difference. Please share in the comments what you do to stay inspired!

"Because children belong in families."
The UN General Assembly has adopted its first ever Resolution on the Rights of the Child focused on children without parental care. For the first time in history, the UNGA called on all 193 Member States to take concrete action to implement the international commitments they have made to protect the human rights of children without parental care, including children in alternative care, under the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and international guidelines, such as the Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children. HCW is a signatory on the Key Rights Resolution. Our Story

Helping Children Worldwide is strengthening communities in Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in the world, by providing vulnerable children and their families with opportunities for education, health care, and spiritual mentoring. The programs at the Child Rescue Centre and Mercy Hospital are especially focused on education, family stability, maternal and infant mortality, and childhood malnutrition. By partnering with local government and child advocacy organizations in Sierra Leone, we help children and families achieve their wonderful, God-given potential. Join us today to transform lives and communities!

The Child Rescue Centre (CRC) supports nearly 600 vulnerable children and youth in Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in the world, by providing for their education, health care, and spiritual mentoring. Our programs help struggling families keep their children in school, so that they can become self-sufficient leaders in their communities and in their nation. For just $25 a month, you can help a child reach their awesome God-given potential.

Mercy Hospital’s mission is to improve infant, child, and maternal health by providing holistic, community-focused care. The hospital serves the second largest city in Sierra Leone with a trained and dedicated medical staff, a laboratory, and a fully stocked pharmacy, providing care to thousands of patients each year, regardless of ability to pay. Mercy’s reach extends beyond the hospital and into the surrounding villages through community-based clinics and education programs, including nutrition clinics, prenatal care, malaria testing and treatment, and confidential HIV/AIDS testing and counseling.

Can someone tell me if the swing set and sliding board at the facility in Bo was made in Sierra Leone? Was it made from old bed frames? There is a baby here in kansas city, born with brain damage, his dad is trying everything to help him he has a go fund me set up, i dont know if your able to help even if you just share his story, I just felt like it was my moral duty to try to get anyone someone to help. Thank you for your time. Baby elgin was born emergency c-section at 34 weeks due to a placental abruption. He suffered a severe brain injury due to lack of oxygen during the birth. He was diagnosed with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy. There is a treatment called Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy that could help my son regenerate his brain tissue. Unfortunately it is not covered under insurance. So we are looking to raise funds to get him to his treatment in New Orleans, Louisiana as soon as possible. gf.me/u/kxpuzx KCTV5 News Coveragehttp://www.kctv5.com/story/38942507/kansas-city-family-counts-blessings-as-baby-turns-9-weeks-old
