We have struggled with writing this post for several reasons! First the raw emotions of those directly involved in this rescue and second because we needed to contact her wonderful adopter prior to posting.

Late last week Gray’s foster mom rushed her to the vet as she had a temp. Gray was checked in and within 16 hours her temp was normal, but our active, hyper girl was not. The vets were very aggressive fighting an infection that spread quickly. She was simply too weak to fight this!

On Wednesday, her foster mom got the call that Gray had passed. Everyone involved is crushed! This girl was a fighter! No one was prepared! Many involved are still struggling with her loss! Her remains were brought home yesterday which opened up fresh wounds. Those involved with her care, vets, her foster mom, transport and people she stayed with are all still in shock. Our prayers to all!

Run fast and free Miss Gracie Gray Star! Your energy is felt still!!

Gray has been at the vet for the last couple of days and is currently back at the ER. She unfortunately ripped her stitches out, we did a repair surgery and then she ripped them out again. So while we are all hyped that she wants to be active, which means PT, wheelchair usage, exercise will all go great for her because she’s determined to be active it also means that when we need her to not be active or we’ll continue to have these issues. Donations are being taken at [email protected]. We are trying to get some more equipment and items that will help keep her chill for a couple weeks. She is on prednisone which is also going to delay the healing process a little.
If you’re able to help with a donation it’s much appreciated. We also have an Amazon wishlist with much needed items like potty pads and washable pads.
Please keep this beautiful girl in your thoughts. She really needs something to turn for the best so she can start healing.

It’s Friday! We made it through another crazy week! We have a bunch of updates to share with you which we’ll do over the weekend, but tonight we want to introduce you to Gray 🤍

Gray was surrendered by her family at 1 year and 3 months because she was having trouble walking . She sat in a shelter for three months before a rescue out of Virginia stepped up and took her in. They sent her to Blue Pearl for an MRI, blood work and spinal taps. At that time they found she had non-contagious Spinal Meningitis which presents as an auto-immune. For those of you that follow us, you will remember Luna who also has this, but unlike Gray, we quickly took Luna to a specialist and provided treatment. Thanks to this Luna is still mobile, although a little wobbly.

The rescue received an offer from a PT facility to take her on for 3 weeks. During her time within the PT facility she lost 31 pounds and suffered nerve damage to her left leg resulting in her chewing off part of her foot. The first pictures that were sent to the rescue showed a foot that could be repaired. This rescue along with a team of Great Dane lovers reached out for breed specific help. Hopes were not high as they now had a non-mobile giant breed dog with a lot of medical issues and more being added daily.

We stepped up and took her in since we had the experience of Luna. None of us were prepared for Gray's condition when she arrived. She had mutilated the foot beyond repair, meaning she had chewed most of it off. We can’t begin to imagine the pain she had to be experiencing to do this to herself looking for some type of relief. Her weight loss was massive which made the hope of PT secondary to getting muscle back on her. She was experiencing incontinence which is dire to a dog who cannot get up and is left is lay in her own fluids.

We had to remove her leg, although this was not what we had hoped for, but due to damage from possibly laying on concrete and not being strong enough to switch sides, there was permanent damage. By this time the leg was more of a hindrance than anything else. NONE of this had to happen! Luna is proof of that. She has been failed so many times by those who had her in their care. We are grateful to the rescue who pulled her and made sure she had the tests and meds needed and who sent her to us, and the small team of rescue people who helped make it possible.

What we now know. She wants to walk! Since surgery she sits up and talks smack to the dogs walking by. She loves food and treats (which is good as she needs it). She does not want to mess on herself and will insist someone come help her so she can go out! Our goal is to get her on a PT schedule once her stitches are removed and build her strength in the good rear leg. Her foster mom and Gray are learning how to best use the wheelchair so she can take walks, which she loves and to start integrating dog puzzles to increase movement and keep her busy until she is more mobile. this girl is determined to walk. We are determined to see that she does.

As you can imagine her medical care is not cheap. But we think she 100% worth every penny. This young girl deserves the chance at a full and happy life. Please consider donating towards her care. We also have an Amazon wishlist with items that she and her foster mom could definitely use!

Update on Annie! This beautiful girl came to us last month with a dislocated hip which, from the vets best guess was most likely from being hit/clipped by a vehicle. She had to undergo a pretty invasive surgery to have her hip put back into the socket. She’s on restricted activity, but settling in well to her foster home. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts as she heals up and begins the search for her forever home!
Adoption apps are on our website, and we can arrange transport to KS, CO, WY and OK.
Donations towards Annie’s medical can be sent to [email protected]

❗️UPDATE on Dudley❗️His foster mom was just able to pick him up from the ER where he spent the night. Unfortunately he does have a broken leg, tick borne illness and multiple infections. He’s also got a bad wound on his chest and several seeping wounds that are draining on his legs. He will require multiple bandage checks and changes over the next few days / weeks.
My personal opinion after seeing cases like his, Dogs are just so much better than humans. I’m so sorry you were treated this way sweet boy. I’m sorry you were turned loose by the people who were supposed to protect and love you. I’m sorry they didn’t care what happened to you. I’m sorry for the people you encountered while on the run who shot at you (the white pieces in the X-rays are bullet fragments.) I’m sorry people have failed you so badly in your first year of life. As a puppy you should’ve been happy, carefree and playful. We promise, from here on out, you will only know the gentle loving hand of a family, you will always have a warm safe place to lay your head and you will always have a full belly.
Please send Dudley positive thoughts as he recovers.
We want to give a huge shout out to Dr. Alex Brooks-Schrauth and the amazing medical team at Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Wichita. Thank you for taking such great care of Dudley!
ER visits are costly, and we appreciate any donations towards his medical care. [email protected]

Good morning everyone! It's been a very busy couple of weeks for the rescue, and we apologize for our FB absence! We're working on updates for the most recent intakes. This morning we want to update you on Dudley. This sweet boy was turned loose by the family that had him when their landlord told them they couldn't have pets. He's been on his own for at least 2-3 months. As expected he is in pretty rough shape. He has a very swollen leg with a through & through wound, he's got small burn marks possibly from fireworks and he's got pellets from a pellet gun lodged under his skin in multiple places. You'd think after everything he's been through he'd be a bit timid but Dudley is the sweetest! He's so happy to have people loving on him, he's super happy to have a safe warm place to rest and he'll be able to start feeling better with proper medical treatment. We know he's just under a year old (just a baby!) and we've promised him that life will only get better from here! If you'd like to send Dudley some much needed groceries, treats or toys to help him see what life should really be like, we're sharing our Amazon Wish List here.

Used to live on a farm with chickens and goats and I still love the smell of freshly mowed grass. And running. I LOVE running. I'm a little hard of hearing, but that doesn't slow me down. I'm good with farm animals, kids, cats, and other dogs. I'll do anything for some regular squares and the feel of the sun on my face, so if you're in the market for a friend to jog with, maybe take in a ball game, I'd love to meet you.

Hi, I'm Sydney! I'm a spunky, bouncy girl with an inquisitive nature who loves to play! I like kids, meeting new people, cats, and boy dogs! I'm not so keen on female dogs, because, well, I like to be Queen of the castle. So if you're searching for a friend to walk with, play with, and just spend time with then I'm your girl!

Two nights ago STG lost a permanent foster. Huck crossed the rainbow bridge in his foster mom arms. Please keep her in your thoughts as she moves forward with a big Dane size hole in her heart.
From Hucks mom: “The house is a little quieter tonight, the tug toys are laying all over the house and yard untouched, and I have lost my monitor during feeding time. Was he a foster? Yes! But I’ve had him for 5+ years! He had an attitude so here is where he landed. On our first meeting he discussed removing my face, luckily he didn’t. Over the years we have come to a place of trust. He still had some no goes! Baths, nail trims and vets! After intensive negotiation we (he) settled on sponge baths, super dry and very few, tug of war to wear down the nails, and Dr. Julie who was allowed with luck and A lot of finesse to give shots, take blood, usually his, and monitor health. No other vet ever allowed!! He had the best crazy eye, and once he loved he was all in, well worth the exception of the aforementioned non-negotiables!
Last night was rough ,tricky and went fast! I laid with him in the ER hallway on the floor with him. We were able to get him comfortable and move him to a bed in a room where he peacefully passed over in my arms and covered with my tears! I know he is with my other kids! I’m hoping Robert is playing tug with him!”

I live in Erie, co - outside boulder. Does anyone have a recommendation for a geriatric dane in need of PT?
Had our phone interview to adopt. Already adopted once through here. The woman that did my phone interview said next step is a home visit....expected. that was a year and a half ago. No calls. Im not complaining because my husband has been unemployed for 10 months. But no one called to find out. I miss my Shady Bhd and wanted to give another dog a forever home.
Can so relate
prayers for Gunny. Libby and Coal sent a little something from their treat fund!
Quincy & Luna have a new video on YouTube...Enjoy! And As always please subscribe and share their videos. Save The Giants will received the $$ that we earn.
Sharing because I know some of these brands are recommended. If there's even a chance, I hesitate to risk...
