Our COVID Refuge Response Team, which we formed March 2020, has helped guide us through all of the different waves of the pandemic so far with wisdom and creativity, and we are so thankful for our team's ongoing work and collaboration to keep our community as safe as possible and participate in playing our part in local public health efforts. Even though The Refuge's vaccination rates are high for those 12 and up, community transmission rates in Broomfield are in the High Transmission range and we are following Broomfield Public Health guidelines for our practices. When we're in red, it's masks required for everyone indoors, regardless of vaccination status, except when eating and drinking. It's hard to feel like we're going backwards, but really it's about adjusting to the ever-changing realities of COVID and loving each other and our neighbors well. As we move into our Fall schedule after Labor Day, we'll continue to use this CDC Community Transmission rate by county dial as our guidance and continue to maximize outdoor gatherings as much as possible while we can. If you or someone you know needs support in getting your vaccine (transportation, more information, etc) please let us know. #InThisTogether

A thread running through Forest Church this past Saturday was letting go and release and we read this Ted Loder poem. We love what happens out there in nature for people and collaborating with our friends from Transforming Creatives and #beautyheals.

Loosen My Grip - Ted Loder //

O God, it is hard for me to let go,
most times,
and the squeeze I exert,
garbles me and gnarls others.
So, loosen my grip a bit
on the good times,
on the moments of sunlight and star shine and joy,
that the thousand graces they scatter as they pass
may nurture growth in me
rather than turn to brittle memories.

Loosen my grip
on those grudges and grievances
I hold so closely,
that I may risk exposing myself
to the spirit of forgiving and forgiveness
that changes things and resurrects dreams and courage.

Loosen my grip
on my fears
that I may be released a little into humility
and into an acceptance of my humanity.

Loosen my grip
on myself
that I may experience the freedom of a fool
who knows that to believe
is to see kingdoms, find power, sense glory;
to reach out
is to know myself held;
to laugh at myself
is to be in on the joke of your grace;
to attend to each moment
is to hear the faint melody of eternity;
to dare love
is to smell the wild flowers of heaven.

Loosen my grip
on my ways and words,
on my fears and fretfulness
that letting go
into the depths of silence
and my own uncharted longings,
I may find myself held by you
and linked anew to all life
in this wild and wondrous world
you love so much,
so I may take to heart
that you have taken me to heart.

How You Can Help: Beirut & Beyond 8.23.21.mp4

There so many needs in the world right now, in our community and around the globe and we are going to do our best to share these needs and opportunities for support when we can. The Refuge is friends with some amazing people who are dedicated to long-haul relationship and relief in hard places. This is a time-sensitive need to bring easy to purchase here medical supplies to Lebanon in two weeks, thanks to the work of Beirut and Beyond- a project of Visions Made Viable and Suzann Mollner, who is one of our community partners and has helped us learn so much about Palestinian refugees over many years. You can make a donation at beirutandbeyond.org or drop off any supplies at The Refuge before September 3rd. https://vimeo.com/591264730 / Next up: Supporting Afghan Refugees relocating to the Denver area.

Hello all! The Refuge is looking to start a safe storage program for our friends to keep some of their important documents/ personal items safe and accessible. We are looking for metal storage lockers that we can house outside. If anyone has some available to donate or any leads on somewhere that might have some for a reasonable price, we would surely appreciate it!
I'll be moving, and disabled. I am in great need of a couple of people to help remove a sofa, small dinning room table and 2 chairs from my apartment within in the next week. . I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you so very much

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for the amazing love and support (and patience) the last few weeks! Surgery went well, and I'm home re-learning the little ins and outs of which way to move without the ouch, and overwhelmed by how many people care. Can't wait to get back to my extended family!

There is local philanthropic organization called the 100 Women Who Care of Broomfield that just had their first official meeting last weekend. The group will meet quarterly and nominate local non-profits to receive a donation of $100 from each member. The Refuge Cafe was one of three nominations selected at the first meeting and they won the vote, receiving a lump sum donation from the group of over $4300! The Refuge Cafe is so excited to be acknowledged and supported in this way. Representatives from the Refuge will have an opportunity to attend the next quarterly meeting to share the impact of the donation. https://www.broomfield100womenwhocare.com/
