Sweet Ray Ray. He has been keeping Sweetly the goat company lately, because Sweetly has not been feeling so well. However, every once in a while Ray decided headbutting is a cool thing for a blind dude to do. He has pretty good aim, too.

George came to us from the Prince Georges animal shelter - he had been taken in a cruelty case. He was so shy at first and scared to be touched. Now he is the man about town, and loves his buddies Hazel and Waldo. He is so cute - he has an underbite and his little tongue hangs out most of the time.

Marguerite was very resistant to the idea of a haircut. She sat down and simply refused to budge. Well, the sometimes the mountain has to go to Mohammed so we moved all the equipment right to where she had planted herself. She is now naked. Whew.

Bart's shearing day. Why do we shear him on a stand? Because Bart was born with kyphosis (a curvature of the spine). He has no flexibility in his back and so cannot be put on his bum like most sheep. He doesn't seem to mind the special treatment.

Old Vinnie, AKA Vincent MacGoo, AKA Vinnie the Tooth died rather unexpectedly some time Friday night, Orthodox Good Friday. He made his way to the farthest corner of the farm, down by the creek (a place he never frequented), and, it appears, lay down and died. He was not sick. He was not attacked by any other animal. He was very, very old and ready to move on.

Old Vinnie had been passed from home to home to home. When he came here in 2015, he was emaciated, infested with lice and internal parasites, and we honestly didn't know if he was going to make it. Good food and good lovin' seemed to be his cure. He thrived, made countless friends - I know many will be unutterably sad at the news of his passing - and he was an all around good guy.

He was cheerful and by and large pretty peaceful, given that he was a goat. He had a "side" to him, and would not hesitate to headbutt if it was necessary. But mostly it wasn't He had a terrific smile and an unbelievably generous soul.

Whenever an animal dies, it seems that I have some immediate association - a smell, a song, a saying. I cannot say why, but it always happens. Maybe not so strangely, because Vinnie had a great sense of humor, the first thing that came to my mind was this skit from Monty Python. I just somehow think Vinnie would approve.

"'E's not pinin'! 'E's passed on! This [parrot] is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! " (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZw35VUBdzo)

Till we meet again, dear sweet Vinnie. We loved you so very very much.

Dave had to put a reinforced chain on the door to the hay storage area. Brandy had figured out how to open the sliding latch... apparently a few cows are not convinced this will work. Probably already tattling to Brandy.

This photo is taken from outside the house where Priscilla is persistently trying to get in or at least give a message to someone. Given that Henryka is not at the farm at the moment, we are now ruling out jealousy as the motive. We believe this is a power takeover move. Stay tuned to find out what this Wiley chicken is up to.

I thought of your ongoing issue when I saw this this morning… Ha ha got any Uno?
A beautiful story.
I'm going to follow this with my own commercial for this wonderful place. Please read this and fall in love with a place where all kinds of animals are friends; where each is loved; where each had been in some horrible place; treated horribly, etc before Farmer Anne rescued them. She shears sheep in many states to pay for the vet bills and feed and on and on. There are wonderful volunteers who help her and wonderful people who adopt an animal and give it financial support or just write a check to be used as needed. And yes, it's always needed. Thank you on behalf of the wonderful work that is done here. Kate
so many things arriving! i got notice that a couple of things were left in the mailbox and one on or near the front porch (the goats may have found that one for you LOL). you all must be swimming in packages!! the gloves, Jethro's collar, and heat lamps are arriving thursday and friday

Thank you again for taking such good care of Yuri, he had a great time at the bunny motel, he’s been so playful and eating and pooping so much since he’s got home. He’s the happiest little boy right now.
