Photo of the day: This just looks like a normal White Pine, but if you look closely, you will see little black and white aphids on the branch! These aphids eat the tree and secrete a sweet syrup that attracts ants. Since the ants like the syrup, they protect the aphids from any predators like ladybugs! 🐞

NEW THIS YEAR!! Webelos attending a full week of resident camp get to shoot pellot guns on Wednesday! These powerful guns launch pellots with compressed air and are much more accurate!!!

Photo of the day: Our nature director tamed a male dobsonfly this morning! The larvae, called Hellgrammites, start their lifecycle in the water. They molt over 10 times during this 1-3 year period and leave the water when they are ready to pupate. Since Hellgrammites cannot produce silk or cocoons, they did a small hole under a rock or log. They spend about 20 days in this pupa stage before emerging as an adult. They are great fishing bait, but you definitely want to be careful not to get caught in their powerful Pinchers!
