Women’s Equality Day gives us the opportunity to acknowledge the hard work of those who have fought for women’s rights and the great strides they have made in achieving equity. It also reminds us that there is still work to be done, and that it is everyone’s responsibility to be a champion of equality.

Happy National Photography Day! We spoke with Eagle student Barton Esparza about his work and his decision to study photography @NWACC:

“I was gifted an old film camera, and I enjoyed the chase of getting just a couple of good pictures out of a whole roll. I moved over to digital when I started my class at NWACC, and between the class and the switch, my love for photography has grown to the point that I never leave home without my camera bag. I originally started taking courses at NWACC to learn more about the career field I was in. I enjoyed photography, so I decided to learn more about it. My digital photography course inspired me to lean harder into it, and I plan to pursue a graphic design degree at NWACC as well.”

The new NWACC Bicycle Technician Program is made possible by the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation. Steuart Walton has been pivotal in establishing Bentonville as the "Mountain Bike Capital of the World," and we are grateful for his support!

"The NWACC Bicycle Technician Program has the potential to become a training hub for cycling and technical workforce development, not just regionally but nationally, in a growing industry. As more people turn to cycling as a sport, for recreation, transportation or exercise, the development of this curriculum is timely and important to the economic advancement of our region."
-Steuart Walton, Chairman of the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation

Congratulations to NWACC alumna Patricia Rodriguez for winning the 2021 Dick Trammel Outstanding Alumni Award! She was recognized during today’s NorthWest Arkansas Community College’s spring graduation ceremony.

This annual award recognizes outstanding alumni who have been successful in their career field and have made a positive impact on the community.

Patricia is a social work-oriented nonprofit professional and independent bilingual program facilitator who is focused on facilitating a safe community outside of institutions. In her current position as client advocate at The Bail Project, she works to disrupt the system of pre-trial incarceration through policy and direct services advocacy.

After Patricia graduated from NWACC, she went on to earn a Bachelor's in Social Work from the University of Arkansas, and worked in advocacy and service roles with a number of community-oriented nonprofits, including Hark at the Center for Community Care, Feed Communities, NWA Center for Sexual Assault, and OneCommunity, in addition to her volunteer work with The Fayetteville Public Library, Second Helping NWA, Proyecto Mariposa by Colores United, and Springdale High School.

In her independent programming work, she draws on her experience as a teen mom to help people access internal resources for connection and healing from the trauma of systemic injustice through the lenses of kindness, hopefulness and play.
