THE LIST IS IN! Before we run down the partial list of items for the pantry Oct 15th we want to remind our VOLUNTEERS that our process has changed. We will not have to set up tables or make boxes before the distribution and we will only need a few people at 3:00 to help unload the truck. Most volunteers should not arrive until 3:30 to 4:00. Remember to dress for colder weather and some gloves to keep hands warm might be a good idea. Much of our pantry will be conducted outside so plan accordingly.

Now, on to the list:

Apples
Bars
Cheese Sauce
Jello
Produce
Rice Cakes
Snacks
Potatoes
Pop
Rice
Water
Bread
Milk
Misc Refrigerated
Cottage Cheese
Protein Boxes
Pizza
Frozen Vegetables
French Fries

Remember to clear out a space in your vehicle for our volunteers to put these items into your vehicle. This is a drive-by distribution where you go station-to-station and you remain in your vehicle. For convenience, you may wish to place a couple of empty boxes or baskets in your trunk for us to put your items into for each bundle. No more than 2 bundles per vehicle. There will be no exceptions. The pantry is at the Mower County Fairgrounds and begins at 5:00 PM. Enter off 4th Ave SW and follow our volunteer instructions. See you there!

OK, so here is the idea...clean out a space in your vehicle to put two boxes or baskets. Two boxes for each bundle (two bundles would use 4 boxes). The trunk is preferred. When your turn comes to get in line, have your trunk or door open and you will go down the line stopping at each station for a volunteer to place a food item(s) into your container. Everything else about our distribution is the same as in the past. GUESTS enter off 4th Ave SW. You will stay in your vehicle. A $20 exact cash donation for each bundle. 2 bundle maximum per vehicle. No exceptions.

That's it. Please follow instructions and don't jump to the next station until you get the OK from a volunteer. We will see how this goes and may use this process in the future. The reason for the change is explained in an earlier post.

We will post the food list as soon as we get it Wednesday and we look forward to seeing you Thursday the 15th at the Mower County Fairgrounds starting at 5:00 PM.

Thanks to all our volunteers and our partners Thompson Sanitation, International Paper, KAUS AM/FM, The Austin Daily Herald, Andy's Logging, The Mower County Fair Board and the Mower County Emergency Management Office. See you the 15th!

Changes at Ruby's

With the coming of Winter Ruby's Pantry Austin is forced to make some changes to our way of distributing food to our guests. We are going to try a new method this Thursday October 15th at the Mower County Fairgrounds beginning at 5:00 PM.

Instead of placing full boxes into your vehicle we will be conducting a station-to-station drive-thru with our volunteers at each station placing your items directly into your vehicle (preferably your trunk). You may put a couple of empty boxes or baskets (the size of our boxes from past distributions) into your vehicle for each bundle and we will put the items into those at each station. Or, we will simply put the items carefully into your vehicle loose. All we ask from you is to have a space cleaned out for the food to be put as you roll along from station-to-station. And to have your trunk/hatchback/back end/etc open as you roll along.

Otherwise, the distribution will work just like our past pantries at the fairgrounds. GUESTS will enter off 4th Ave SW and line up on the grassy area north of the grandstand. We request a $20 exact cash donation for each bundle with a maximun of 2 bundles per vehicle. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS to the 2 bundle limit. Sorry, we want to see how this new method works (or doesn't) before possibly expanding bundle limits.

This method has worked well at other pantries and we are going to give it a try before Winter. Please follow volunteer instructions and drive safely slowly thru the distribution stopping at each station and only moving forward when instructed to do so. We hope this method will speed up our set-up time and thus help the distribution go faster. It may, also, give us another way of conducting our pantry if we are unable to use a building this winter due to Covid-19 and buildings at the fairgrounds being used for storage.

There will be more info here on Facebook as we get closer to the 15th.

VOLUNTEERS: please look for our email to those of you who have given us your email address. It should be coming soon and if you don't find it look in your spam box. Without boxes to construct we anticipate we won't need you until 3:30 or 4:00 except for a few to help us unload the truck.

Something new always brings a few glitches but if we all are patient and follow instructions we think this will work well. Be safe and we look forward to seeing you at the Mower County Fairgrounds on the 15th!

Changes To Ruby's

As we head into the fall and winter months Ruby's Pantry Austin needs to make some changes to our process. The Plager Building at the fairgrounds will be used for storage and we will be adjusting to another way to distribute our bundles. After observing how several other Ruby distributions conduct their pantry we are going to try a new method of putting the food items in each vehicle for our October distribution on the 15th at the Mower County Fairgrounds.

It really is a simple idea. Instead of putting the items in a box and then placing the full boxes into your vehicle we plan on placing the items directly into your car or truck, without the box. You will drive slowly along a line, stopping briefly at each station while a volunteer places that station's item into your trunk. You will then move on to the next station, stop, and when directed move on to the next station and so on until you have completed the distribution.

This method allows us to set up our pallets outside and will make for a quicker distribution. It will require some cooperation from our guests.

YOU MUST CLEAN A SPACE IN YOUR VEHICLE FOR THE ITEMS TO BE PLACED! We will not be putting items just anywhere or everywhere in your vehicle. We prefer the trunk, hatchback or truck bed to be CLEARED OF OTHER ITEMS so we have plenty of space to place your food. If you wish to have recepticles to have us put food into you should place a couple of our Ruby's cardboard boxes from past distributions or a couple of similar sized clothes baskets in a place easily accessed for our volunteers. See the example of correct sized baskets below.

PLEASE, CLEAN A SPACE IN YOUR VEHICLE! You will be asked to open your trunk or door when you start in line so we can quickly and easily get your items in the vehicle and you can move down the line safely.

We know there will be some confusion and glitches but this method has worked very well at other distributions and we want to give it a try before Winter to see how it will work.

Start planning now by CLEANING A SPACE IN YOUR VEHICLE and locating the proper sized containers if you wish to use them. There will be more info right here in the days ahead.

Without all our volunteers and partners we would not be able to conduct our distributions that help so many. We have several organizations and church groups that show up to help and we invite all groups and individuals who want to help to join in our efforts. You all do such a great job and we thank you!
Our volunteers are ready to do whatever is needed to get the job done. Please come back as often as you can. It's work but it's rewarding and fun.
Our partners provide services and items we could not get without their generosity. Please thank them and use their services when you can. We recognize International Paper and Thompson Sanitation for their continued support. We thank Andy's Logging. Andy has been there for us since the beginning and the use of his skid loader is invaluable to us. He is a portable saw mill service as well as logging and skid loader work. He does an excellent job. If you need his services you can reach him at 438-1713. The staff and Board of the Mower County Fairgrounds and the Mower County Emergency Services team provide the location and help to keep these distributions safe and efficient. Thank you.
We also want to thank some of our local media for the support we receive and particularly the last couple of months for their stories on Ruby's. Thanks go to KAUS AM/FM, the Austin Daily Herald, KAAL TV and KIMT TV.
Our next pantry will be at the fairgrounds on Thursday October 15th. Because the fairground's buildings will be used for storage after October we will need to make some changes for the winter. Keep checking our page for updates. We also may need to adjust the number of bundles allowed per vehicle. Our distribution in September drew more guests than the previous few months and we will reassess our procedures for the future. We only get so much food to distribute each month and are always trying to gauge how much we can put into each bundle to have enough for everyone. Sometimes we run out. Our promise to you is we will do the best we can to have something for you when you attend.
The first year was quite a challenge with the start up of our pantry and the pandemic but we recognize the need and will keep trying to provide the best service we can with the help of our volunteers and partners and your patience and understanding. Thank you all. See you in October.

We begin this day thanking God for the opportunity to serve Him by helping our neighbor thru Ruby's Pantry. We are grateful for our volunteers and partners for the generosity of their time and services. We ask God to bless this effort and provide a blessing to all those who who help us and who use Ruby's Pantry. We pray He will keep us safe. In Jesus name, Amen.

Thanks to all of you who have volunteered at our distributions and to those of you who will do so today. We really do need you. Thanks to International Paper for the donation of boxes and to Thompson Sanitation for the recycling bin and garbage carts. We also thank the Mower County Fairboard and fairgrounds staff as well as the Mower County Emergency Services office for their contributions. To our local media we say thank you. KAUS AM/FM, The Austin Daily Herald, KAAL TV, KIMT TV and KTTC TV help us keep you informed of what is happening with Ruby's. Please thank and use these organizations whenever you have the opportunity. Remember, our distribution begins at 5:00 PM at the Mower County Fairgrounds. See you there!

We're Number 2

Our next Ruby's begins our second year of distributions in Austin. Our first year brought many challenges and changes but with the help of our volunteers and the generosity of our partners and your patience we made year one work. Here's praying for a safe successful year two of distributions no matter what changes come our way.
We are at the Mower County Fairgrounds again Thursday the 17th for another drive-thru pantry. GUESTS please enter off 4th Ave SW. Just follow the signs and instructions. The distribution begins at 5:00 PM.
VOLUNTEERS should enter off of 8th Ave SW and come around 3:00 PM. That's when the truck arrives and set-up really starts. We need as many volunteers as we can get so please come help and bring some friends.
Our procedure is the same as in the past:

1) CLEAN A SPACE FOR YOUR BUNDLES
2) STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE
3) DO NOT BRING CONTAINERS (unless you're a volunteer)
4) $20 EXACT CASH FOR EACH BUNDLE
5) UP TO 2 BUNDLES PER VEHICLE (this is a change)
6) FOLLOW VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTIONS

We have decided to allow 2 bundles per car because the distributions have been going so well. However, if you do not have a clean space for your bundles our volunteers may decide they cannot safely put your bundles in your vehicle so please be sure to clean out enough room for the number of bundles you are getting. Questions may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church at 433-3445. The partial item list will be posted here when we get it. That is usually late Wednesday afternoon but could be Thursday morning. OK. That's it! We're ready for our second year and look forward to seeing you Thursday at the fairgrounds!

Coming up this Thursday the 17th! Our next Ruby's Pantry! It will be at the Mower County Fairgrounds starting at 5:00 PM and will be a drive-thru. We still need volunteers to arrive around 3:00 PM to help set-up and if you have empty egg cartons we can always use those, too. For those of you who have not participated in a Ruby's before we will post some instructions later today. For the rest of you, it will work like our past 4 distributions with staying in your vehicle, cleaning out a space for your bundles, $20 exact cash donation for each bundle and following volunteer instructions. The real change from our last few distributions is WE WILL ALLOW EACH VEHICLE UP TO 2 BUNDLES (instead of just one). You will still need to clear out a space for both bundles and have exact cash ($20 for each bundle). If space is not cleared our volunteers may refuse to load your second bundle so PLEASE clear a space for easy loading. Looking forward to serving you on the 17th. Be safe.

Ruby's next pantry is this Thursday September 17th at the Mower County Fairgrounds. We had a great turnout of volunteers last month and hope you all come by to help this Thursday, the 17th. We really need each of you to help make our distributions successful. The truck will arrive about 3:00 PM so please show up around then as the work to set up really begins and thank you for helping your friends and neighbors get much needed food during these tough times.

Egg Cartons needed

WE NEED YOU! Each month we can use up to 100 or more volunteers to make our Ruby's Pantry safe and efficient. Please volunteer. If you have questions about it call Grace Lutheran at 433-3445. AND! We used many of our supply of egg cartons last month so we can use more in case we get eggs again. If you have any egg cartons consider donating them to Ruby's. Just drop them off at Grace Lutheran church at 2001 6th Ave SE in Austin. Call them if you have questions. Thank you. Remember...our next Pantry is coming up Thursday September 17th. It starts at 5:00 PM at the Mower County Fairgrounds. See you there.

Ruby's Is One

Our next Ruby's Pantry is Thursday September 17th at the Mower County Fairgrounds AND we are one year old! This first year has brought many challenges and adjustments and we want to thank the many volunteers who show up each month to make these distributions possible. PLEASE KEEP COMING! We can't do it without you. We also want to thank our community partners for their continued support. Boxes are donated by International Paper each month. Thompson Sanitation kindly donates garbage cans and a recycling bin each month we are at the fairgrounds. Both businesses volunteered these donations and we thank them. You can thank them, too, by using their services whenever possible. The Mower County Fair Board has been great allowing us the space to conduct our pantry outdoors as a drive-thru this summer. The county fair staff has been more than helpful keeping a space clear each month and the Mower County Emergency Management team has masterfully organized the cars to make our distributions safe and efficient. Our local media sources KAUS radio, The Austin Daily Herald, KAAL TV, KTTC TV and KIMT TV have helped us get the word out and keep you informed about Ruby's. WE THANK YOU ALL! In the coming days we will make a few announcements about our next pantry so check back here soon. We promise to keep trying to make our monthly distributions as safe, convenient and efficient as possible. See you the 17th.

THANKS!

All we can say is WOW! THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! We asked for more volunteers and you heard the call. You showed up to help your neighbor and we thank you. We mean it when we say we can't do it without you. Please consider coming back for our September pantry on the 17th. And bring a friend. We didn't have one volunteer too many but we had enough. You made it work. And thanks to our business partners International Paper and Thompson Sanitation as well as KAUS AM/FM and the Austin Daily Herald. You were great. Again. Also our gratitude goes to the board and staff of the Mower County Fair and the Mower County Emergency Management Team. Nothing like having professionals helping out. Thank you. It was a success because of all of you. We will see you September 17th.

Is the food list for Feb distribution available yet?
What a fun group of people from across the community to volunteer with and also an opportunity to interact with so many from across our community. Ruby's Pantry blessed many people and there were countless thank yous and smiling faces as we filled their cars.
Be watching KAAL-TV ABC6 news this evening, for our story with Alice Keefe! Not sure whether at 5:00; 5:30, 6:00 or 10:00 so watch them all! And it may potentially air again tomorrow morning, as well! Ruby's Pantry is coming to Austin this Thursday! PS.....let us know if you'd like to volunteer!
