Trailside Middle School PTA

Trailside Middle School PTA This page is created as an online resource for the Trailside Middle School PTA, located in Ashburn, VA. This page is devoted to supporting our students, our parents as well as the teachers and administrators at Trailside Middle School.

We come together online to share information, promote community at Trailside and engage in other positive and supportive activities. While we encourage the free exchange of thoughts and ideas amongst our TMS community, we reserve the right to remove any negative language or post that is not consistent with the PTA Mission to "Promote the education, health and welfare of the Trailside Students while promoting social responsibility, inclusion and involvement of everyone in the Trailside Community."

Let's give our teachers and staff a well-needed morale boost!!! We are collecting notes to teachers and staff tomorrow through Feb 18th. Please ask your student(s) to write a note or two to a teacher that lets them know they are appreciated. Parents can write notes too. Pictures, words, or both can really make someone's day. And if you do better with some ideas to start, here's a link with some guidance: https://www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Thank-You-Note-to-a-Teacher

Here is the text of the second image:

The PTA is conducting a drive to collect notes from students and parents for teachers and staff, letting them know how much they mean to us. Our teachers and support staff need to know that they matter to us when many voices in the news and on social media are saying otherwise. Our goal is to ensure that every staff member receives a note of gratitude on Feb 23, the day they return to school. The letters can be to a specific staff member or any staff member at Trailside. The notes will be bundled by the PTA with treats for each staff member as they prepare for our long-awaited return to school.

A box will be on the cart in front of the school for drop off February 9-18 or you can give letters to members of the PTA board.

*The cart is only out during school hours*

The fall play at Stone Bridge is online this year. Tonight is the opening night, and it's being performed tomorrow and Saturday also. Tickets are per family since it's being streamed. These kids and their wonderful director have worked sooooo hard this fall to make this happen, please consider buying a ticket and watching these kids. All of them are former TMS kids (to my knowledge, anyway) and supporting them is a great thing to do right now. Here's the link to buy tickets: https://www.sbhstheatre.org/buy-tickets

Call for 2020-2021 MSAAC Delegates! Each school in LCPS appoints a delegate to MSAAC. If you're interested in serving as your school's MSAAC delegate, contact your principal! The first MSAAC meeting will be held virtually on Wednesday, September 16th at 7 pm.

Delegates have the following responsibilities:

1. Attend MSAAC general body meetings and share the information/experience with your home school, collaborating with your school’s equity committee.

2. Represent and advocate for particular needs of minority students within your home school.

3. Comprise the body of voting MSAAC members for MSAAC board elections or bylaw amendments.

MSAAC advocates for minority students within the district. Minority includes the intersectionality of physical and cultural identities like race, religion, ability, and LGBTQ+. You do not have to be a minority to serve as a delegate.

Important information from LCPS regarding Virtual First Day

Important information from LCPS regarding Virtual First Day

Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) will release its Virtual First Day to families on Friday, August 28.

Virtual First Day is an initiative designed to collect information parents need to start a new school year in one convenient location. Now in its third year, Virtual First Day also reduces the amount of paper and copying used since there are no longer “first day folders” coming home from schools. The process is especially important this year as LCPS opens in the 100% distance learning environment.

An email link will be sent to parents via the Blackboard Mass Notification system on Friday, August 28. A link to Virtual First Day also will be posted to the LCPS website and each school’s website.

On the Virtual First Day website, parents will find a number of important resources, including:

• School Calendar
• COVID Mitigation Documents
• Student Rights and Responsibilities
• Parent Resources
• Guide and Directory to the LCPS division
• Program of Studies for Secondary Students
• Free and Reduced Lunch Application
• McKinney-Vento Application
• Insurance Information
• LCPS Mobile App Details

In addition, the Online Verification Process will enable parents to log-in to ParentVue to enter updates to important information in the system, including emergency contacts, demographics, dismissal details, medical information, information release, permissions for notification, and more. Families will also acknowledge the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook and student device documents. Once families have completed the Online Verification steps they will be able to see their student’s schedule/teacher assignment. Please note that online verification is only accessible through ParentVue on the web (portal.lcps.org) and not through the mobile app at this time.

Here's a recap of last night's school board meeting and the adopted school year calendar for 2020-21.

JUNE 29 SCHOOL BOARD MEETING RECAP:

➡️ The longer resolution was passed for a choice of Hybrid Learning or 100 % Distance Learning, with amendments (to increase synchronous, but not asynchronous, learning over the amount offered in the spring, and to require ALL students to wear face coverings when six feet of physical distance cannot be maintained).

💻 Parents and Staff will choose hybrid or distance learning for the first semester through Parentvue from July 6-10.

➡️ Students will not start school until September 8th with teachers returning on August 19th, which should not impact the end date. Review the calendar attached to this post.

➡️ The Loudoun County High School Mascot will be changed. The LCHS Community will be engaged for further discussion.

➡️ HILLSBORO CHARTER: Discussion about their 100% in person option (12 classes with 12 students with 6' physical distancing) will be discussed at the next meeting on July 21.

➡️ MARK YOUR CALENDARS ... Loudoun County Public Schools will be holding a virtual town hall on 7/8/2020 from 5:30-7pm. (Details TBD).

Good evening! My name is Daniel Jackson, and I am the Director of Vocal Music at Stone Bridge High School. So, I'd like to invite you all to our dessert concert on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 7pm. Tickets are $5. You'll get wonderful sweets and musical treats. Thanks for reading this! If you have you any questions about the program, please email at [email protected] Come and get to us know.
