StoryBook Treasures

StoryBook Treasures StoryBook Treasures Inc. (SBT) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to putting the most sought after books in the hands of children.
StoryBook Treasures is a nonprofit organization that works directly with schools focusing on our country’s most economically disadvantaged communities to nurture a love of reading and build life long reading connections in children throughout the United States. Our mission is to work with educators, parents and children to inspire lifelong literacy connections through direct teacher instruction utilizing the most sought after children’s literature, helping children build personal connections to literacy and ultimately building a home-school connection by fostering the ability for each child to build their own collection of books in their own individual home library.

Storybook Treasures is on a mission to increase literacy for our nations’ children. We have created a revolutionary program to change the lives of children through books. Our unique program is implemented within the pubic school setting by the classroom teacher. Children learn to build a home library with the program’s books and supplemental materials. This method fosters the essential home school reading connection that is vital to literacy. Our programs success is proven by each child we touch.

“Nelson notes the two key components of reading—word structure knowledge and language comprehension—and makes these points: “Word decoding without comprehension isn’t reading” and “Making up meaning without accurate word decoding is not reading.” She says, “If either one of those pieces is defective, it’s not going to work.”

Santa Rosa County District Schools, Florida

What a wonderful way to celebrate StoryBook Treasures! Thank you Santa Rosa County District Schools, Florida, for highlighting the SBT celebration!!

Primary grade students at W. H. Rhodes Elementary School received free books and enjoyed literacy activities as part of their “Storybook Treasures Day." This event took place today, and was coordinated by Dianne Lewis, a Literacy Coach at the school.

The books were provided by StoryBook Treasures, a non-profit organization that gives free books and “treasures” five times a year to Title 1 schools that win this grant. This is the second year that students at Rhodes, a Title 1 school, have benefited from this program. The goal is to help students build their home libraries. Why are books on shelves at home so important? Watch this highlight video of today's school event to find out...

StoryBook Treasures is a new non-profit dedicated to promoting literacy for all children. Founded by Loudoun County's Teacher of the Year Denis Corbo, the organization has raised more than $130,000 and shipped more than 15,000 books to children in Florida, Nevada, Alaska, Maryland, and Virginia. When Denise needed to promote her organization at a major event, she came to AlphaGraphics Loudoun. Our designer, Erin Bennett, pulled together an eye-catching display in relatively short order: a backdrop, table skirt, two retractable banners, and a brochure and rack card combined to tell the compelling story fueling Denise's passion. It was an honor to help StoryBook Treasures stand out in a crowd!
