A great time was had by all at Ashburn Toastmasters Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contest on August 24, 2016. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all members who supported this contest. Forging ahead this club year to continue our President's Distinguished status!

02/28/2016

Ashburn Toastmasters is officially President's Distinguished for the 2015-2016 Toastmasters year. Despite some minor mid-year course corrections, we've stayed right on track and not only achieved President's Distinguished earlier than the club has EVER done before, but we're only the SECOND out of 139 clubs in District 29 to even achieve that level.

GREAT work, everyone.

2nd - Pam Wilson
1st - Narayanan Doraswamy

Humorous
3rd - Scott Young

On May 21st Ashburn Today ran a story written by Jan Mercker about Ashburn Toastmasters titled "Ashburn Toastmasters Celebrate Ten Years Of Taking The Fear Out Of Public Speaking." With two minor exceptions, this is a very well written article about our club and the benefits of joining Toastmasters. Drew Rougier-Chapman, our Vice President of Public Relations, is not our President. Pam Wilson is of course our President (at least until the end of this month. Then Dave Keener will lead our club.) The article's other mistake can be found in paragraph six. See if you can spot the 'for' which should be a 'from'.

On May 16, our district, District 29 held the annual Spring Conference and it is difficult to imagine this conference without the contributions of Ashburn Toastmasters. The Conference Co-Chairs were Pam Wilson, our President, and Cheryl Baker, our Mentoring Captain, the Volunteer Coordinator was Cheryl Baker, the Audio/Visual Chair was David Keener, the Hospitality Volunteer was Helen Kelly, the Publicity Chair was Tanya White-Deyo, and, the Keynote Toastmaster who introduced Craig Valentine, the 1999 World Champion of Public Speaking, was our past President Steve Cavin. Additionally, our Vice President of Public Relations, Drew Rougier-Chapman, took home the second place prize in the International Speech Contest. Congrats to our volunteers for a successful Spring Conference and congrats to Drew for his inspiring contest journey.
