Belmont Greene monitors Atapco Commercial Development Application

The Belmont Greene Board continues to monitor the status and progression of the Atapco commercial development application through the Loudoun County review and approval process. Last week, the Atapco application was discussed during the LC Transportation and Land Use Committee (TLUC) meeting. Atapco presented their development application overview to the TLUC and following discussion highlighted input from the community and the application shortfalls with county zoning ordinances. During the discussion, LC BoS members referred to over 70 comments from the BG community posted on the LC LOLA website.

The TLUC did not endorse the Atapco development plan, noting shortfalls with zoning, communication breakdown with the community, and lack of community support for the plan, but recommend that the Atapco application be forwarded to the LC BoS for Public Hearing in June.

The BG Board is reviewing options for community discussion and developing plans to represent the community position during the BoS Public Hearing session in June. The community is encouraged to visit the Loudoun County Government website for more information, in addition to information sent out by the BG Board. The Board will continue to update the community over the next few weeks.

ATTENTION, your comments requested regarding the Atapco Commercial Development…

As noted during the meeting last week with Supervisor Turner, the Atapco proposal for re-developing the existing Village Center at Belmont Greene will be reviewed by the Loudoun County Transportation Land Use Committee (TLUC) at its monthly meeting TOMORROW, Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at 6 pm.

These meetings are being held virtually. If you would like to watch the meeting here is the link to watch on the Loudoun County Government website: https://www.loudoun.gov/392/Cable-Channel-Webcast.

The Board sent a letter to Supervisor Turner and members of the TLUC regarding its position on the current application. Although there will not be an opportunity for public comment at this meeting (the next opportunity for public input will be when the application is presented at a public hearing before the full Board of Supervisors, which is yet to be scheduled), we ask that you add your comments to the public comments section of the Loudoun Online Land Application (LOLA) database, please click here. https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__interwapp01.loudoun.gov_WebLDAs_AppDetails.aspx-3FqsAppID-3DZMAP-2D2019-2D0008-26qsLat-3D39.05465813-26qsLong-3D-2D77.516469
The Board feels that these area are key topics for comments and align with the points highlighted in the letter sent to the TLUC from the Belmont Greene Board of Directors:
1) How the application does very little to mitigate the detrimental impacts to the existing community;
2) The potential long-term effects that approval of this application could have on future infill and redevelopment projects in the county;
3) How the parking assumptions being used in the application are falsely optimistic because the expectation is that residents will park in their garages; and
4) How the proposed redevelopment specifically affects you and your family’s quality of life.

Best Regards,
The Belmont Greene Board of Directors

Belmont Greene Residents,

Republic Services will be making changes to trash/recycling and yard waste pickup service for Belmont Greene effective on April 6, 2020

Republic Services is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation to make sure their drivers in the community are doing the right thing for the health and safety of their employees, customers, and the communities they serve. The number one priority of the Belmont Greene Board of Directors and Republic Services is the safety of the community, and that is at the forefront of every decision we make.

Beginning on Monday April 6th, and until further notice, Republic Services will discontinue weekly yard waste pickup and will be operating under the following guidelines for the Monday and Thursday trash and recycling pickup service for Belmont Greene:

• For customers with carts, Republic will accept cart contents only. The Republic drivers and crews will not pick up waste outside of the cart.
• For customers who do not have carted service, Republic will accept waste placed in bags only. Bags cannot exceed 50 pounds.
• Yard waste and bulk waste programs will be suspended indefinitely beginning on April 6, 2020.

The Republic Services team is working under guidelines and restrictions from Loudoun County to minimize any exposure or chance of spreading COVID-19 and remains committed to the community throughout this crisis.

The Belmont Greene Board strongly encourages residents to continue following all guidance and restrictions for social distancing and the Virginia Stay-at Home Order until June 10th.
