Dear InCourage Families,
The issue of racial injustice--and particularly the injustice against the Black community--is very much on our minds. Our team has been engaging in dialogue internally about how we can be part of the solution. Overwhelmingly in our discussions, our team recognizes that we have an important role in modeling respect, care, and kindness for our students. We understand that we have a special privilege to be part of the lives of so many youth--and with that, we have an opportunity to show them love and respect that they can take with them way beyond the time they spend training on our mats.
As an organization who has taught thousands of students over two decades, our hearts ache as we imagine how many of our members may have felt the pain of racial injustice in their lives.
We see it as our responsibility to provide you a safe haven when you are with us, where you feel secure emotionally, physically, and socially. As an on-going commitment we will continue to ensure that our team and members can participate in our community secure in the knowledge that racial discrimination will not be tolerated at InCourage.
Our company stands on the principles of encouraging others and unleashing people’s inner courage -- to stand up for what is right, and to defend against what is wrong. It’s in our name -- IN COURAGE.
We hope the current pain and frustration will be a turning point in our society’s history that will help all of us--and especially younger generations--to understand that being respectful to one another is the very fabric of all the good in the world. We recognize that we have our society’s future leaders taking our classes every day. We do not take this privilege lightly, and we recognize our responsibility in this.
As our team members shared individually during our internal staff discussions, we all resoundingly expressed a yearning for a better world for our students, our children, and future generations.
Individually and collectively, our team is listening, learning, and seeking to be part of the solution with open hearts.
