On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund remembers. We remember the loss and destruction at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, PA. We remember our country coming together, and American flags flying everywhere. We remember 20 years of combat, of American service members fiercely fighting for our freedom. Meet Johnny Mac Scholar Madison. Madison comes from a long line of military service. Both her parents served in the military, her grandfather served in Vietnam, and her great-grandfather fought in World War II. These examples of sacrifice inspired Madison throughout her life and into her college career, where she now works as a Communications and Marketing intern for the Department of Military and Veteran Affairs.

Madison is in the class of ‘21 at Madonna University majoring in broadcast and cinema arts with a minor in journalism. She has maintained a 3.75 GPA while also running a small business making horsemanship clothing, an idea inspired by her passion for equestrian sports.

Madison says, "This scholarship opens a world of opportunities that otherwise we could not afford.” Her hard work and dedication inspire us! We are proud to support Madison’s education.

Meet Johnny Mac Scholar Landon. Landon is studying Mechanical Engineering at the @Colorado School of Mines. He’s the first in his family to attend college and is on track to graduate this December. Landon’s stepfather Patrick, a Marine, was severely injured while serving in Iraq and is the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.

Of his educational pursuits, Landon says, “One of my dreams is to be able to help the world become a better place by helping the less fortunate. I want to travel the world to places that have a desperate need to develop and raise their standard of living. Whether they need shelter, clean water, or have any other problems, I believe that getting my degree will allow me to have the skills to solve these problems across the world and help better the lives of people at the same time and continue to represent Patrick and the sacrifices that he gave in order to help others and protect his country.”

We are proud to support your education and know that you will make a difference in the world, Landon!

Benjamin Franklin said, "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." As you invest your time, effort, hard work, and more into your education in the face of uncertainty and challenges, know that it's all worth it. And know that we are supporting you and cheering you on.

We wish our Johnny Mac Scholars the best of luck and continued success as they embark on a new academic year.

Meet JMSF Scholar De’Quan, an Information and Computer Technology major at East Carolina University. De’Quan is just about to begin his senior year and is inspired by his father’s service, dedication, and firm belief that everyone deserves a good education.

De’Quan’s father, CW2 Maurice L. was on a training mission in Honduras in 2001 when the helicopter he was flying crashed on a mountain. All five service members aboard were killed. De’Quan says, “This scholarship is not for me. This scholarship is for my dad who I know is watching over me. I want to receive a bachelor’s degree to make my dad proud, and this scholarship will help me achieve that goal. Thank you to the people who chose me for this scholarship.”

We are proud to support your education and know your father would be proud of you, De’Quan. Keep up the great work!
