Good Shepherd Alliance

Good Shepherd Alliance A Christian nonprofit organization providing help for the homeless & those in need through emergency housing & prevention services leading to self reliance
CORE VALUES Good Shepherd Alliance stands on Christian principles; seeking God’s guidance through prayer and operating with the utmost of integrity and humility. We seek to be transparent in operation and responsible in stewardship, always with respect and appreciation for all who serve and are served through our mission. MISSION STATEMENT Good Shepherd Alliance is a Christian non-profit organization providing help and hope for the homeless and those in need through emergency and transitional housing and outreach services leading to self-sufficiency and self-worth. VISION We will be passionate about advocating for those in need and seek to be best at providing opportunities for self-sufficiency to families and individuals. We will work to engage our community to support these endeavors; joining with us in spirit and through their financial support as well as volunteerism. Our economic plan will include the operation of thrift stores, seeking of private grants and fundraisers.

The Good Shepherd Alliance came into existence when a pastor began taking homeless people into his own home over twenty years ago. The first year he took in over 14 homeless youth, working with the local Sheriffs department. This began the process of organizing the community in establishing the first organized homeless shelter called Loudoun County Emergency Housing Alliance. This predecessor to The Good Shepherd Alliance began raising funds to house the homeless for a short time at a local area motel. Area developers then became involved by allowing use of vacant residences in the spirit of mutual responsibility in addressing this problem. Over the years, The Good Shepherd Alliance grew, obtaining property, growing its distinguished Board of Directors, hiring professional staff and establishing solid, coordinated programs to address not only housing, but the problems that cause and surround homelessness. Today, with a tremendous capacity to serve the community like never before, The Good Shepherd Alliance currently has five homes, our headquarters in Ashburn, and four thrift stores in Loudoun County, Virginia. What began as providing much-needed shelter has grown into a goal oriented intensive case management approach to self-sufficiency available to all of our housing residents. In addition, we have numerous outreach programs to assist families in need through our food pantry, counseling and case management services, and thrift store voucher program. By the grace of God and through the generosity, care and concern from our community members, this year we touched the lives of over 118 shelter residents, 1,400 families in need, and over 700 volunteers.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire staff at the Good Shepherd Alliance, we want to thank all of the participants who helped make this year’s Annual Charity Golf Event the best ever! Thanks to the generosity of the golfers who participated: from the local business community who supported us with gift cards and in-kind donations to the individual donors and sponsors who made financial contributions - - we were able to raise over $24,000. Without your support this would not have been possible. The best part is that we put all of the proceeds into our programs to help eradicate homelessness in Loudoun County.

Special thanks to our major sponsors: Our Platinum Sponsor - Merritt Properties; Our Lunch Sponsor - Mitchell & Co., P.C.; and our Gold Sponsors - IT Cadre and GB Network Systems and Security. As we continue to pursue our mission to help serve the homeless in Loudoun County, we are thankful for your generous support. We are privileged to be part of a community that comes together to fill such tremendous needs in our County.

Our thanks to all of you and please know how grateful we are for your continued support. We look forward to seeing you again next year!

This is an excellent and thorough report on the state of our community. It is worth a read.

"Approximately 26% of homeless single adults are employed, and 47% of homeless families have at least one employed adult. These statistics reflect the lived realities of much of Loudoun County's workforce: Their income constraints do not allow them to find affordable housing within the county."

Today we release our new publication, The Profiles of Loudoun: The Numbers Behind the Faces of Loudoun. This meta-analysis, prompted by the Faces of Loudoun community service campaign, uses local data to highlight needs and solutions in our community. This past weekend our emergency shelter was given a little “facelift” in a few key areas thanks to the American Heritage Girl “Stars and Stripes” project. One of the girls involved spent about a year coordinating this project, which included a total of 18 volunteers over the course of two days.

Thank you very much for all of your hard work and effort to helping our shelter shine for those who stay with us in their time of need.

Nancy Bruno, with a new church in Loudoun County named Terraforma Church, set up two days of service in December to volunteer in our Hope's Treasures store and clean up around our office building here in Ashburn.

Part of their mission is an effort they call "Scatter and Serve" which is designed to serve in the community not only physically, but monetarily as well.

Helping others is contagious! The night before their project, they went out to dinner together. As they were discussing their plans, their restaurant server overhead the conversation and was interested in helping. This server and his significant other surprised them by coming to volunteer the next day. They have also signed up to volunteer in March.

Thank you to Nancy and all who served those two days at our location in Ashburn. We look forward to seeing you all once again this spring!

We would like to send a big THANK YOIU Junior Troop 4523 of Service Unit 70-15 and their leaders, Ebony and Vannessa, on their efforts to help those we serve this holiday season.

"The girls decided to partner their holiday community service event with their Savy Shopper badge which teaches the girls all about "wants" versus "needs", creating a budget and making smart shopping choices. They all met at Giant and worked together to shop for items that the shelter needed while making good choices to ensure that they got the most for their budget. The girls were so happy to support the shelter and plan to continue to give back throughout the year."

We appreciate all of the efforts that went into this project and it is always great to see our community come together to help one another in a time of need.

Due to the snow we will be closed today along with our Hope’s Treasures locations. We hope everyone has a blessed day and stays safe.

Hey! Do you maybe have a thrift store that does furniture pickups or a place to donate and that picks up furniture? I am asking for information in future, considering the situation now...
Did you know that you can select GSA as your charity of choice with smile.amazon, and Amazon will make a donation to GSA almost every time you buy something?
I am a long time supporter of this super organization. Quite a few years ago you held an auction at the Sterling location. Is this going to be held again? I have some valuable antiques to donate, if so.
