Last month the Supreme Court announced its ruling in Fulton vs. City of Philadelphia, a case regarding whether taxpayer-funded foster care agencies can discriminate against LGBTQ people based on religious beliefs. #SCTOUS ruled that governments can enforce nondiscrimination laws as long as they do so neutrally, but determined that Philadelphia’s law was not neutral.

We oppose discrimination in all its forms and celebrate families who are dedicated to providing homes to children in the child welfare system. Every qualified family is valid and worthy—children deserve a loving, caring, committed home.

FKCE Training Program
The Foster and Kinship Care Education Program (FKCE) provides quality education and support opportunities for caregivers of children and youth in out-of-home care so that these providers may meet the educational, emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs of children and youth. Our classes are free, open to the public and continuously updated to ensure that they are aligned with best practices.

FKCE classes at LMC
Coming up...

Identifying & Navigating School Issues - Tuesday, February 9, 2021, 1-3 p.m.
Early identification and intervention are key when your child is having school or learning issues. Studies show when children have a positive educational experience early they develop a sense of belonging. In this workshop, 5 key areas will be examined: 1) identifying the school or learning issues 2) what steps do I take to get help for my child 3) how to prepare and address these concerns 4) who should be contacted at the child's school 5) where are the resources in the school or community.

Understanding Sensory Integration - Monday, February 22, 2021, 9-11 a.m.
Sensory integration is the neurological process that organizes sensation from the body and the environment making it possible to use the body effectively within the environment. This class will explain why individuals respond in a certain way to sensory input and how it affects behavior. Parenting strategies to support the child's performance across multiple environments will be explored.
